Smile Before, during and,.....

Hi all, and happy new year!

Have been looking at this site for a couple of years now and thought it time I registered,... (lazy I know!) I'm in the process of creating a loose RS clone.

It's going to be a car for me just how I want it. Not a garage queen or a show car, just a USEABLE fun car.

It all started towards the end of 2005 with a car on ebay,... the advert said a 74S,... it turned out to be 'mostly' a 79 SC! here's the starting pic:

After about 18 months,... (read here - LOADS OF RUST - rotten front wings (fenders?), Sills (rockers?), kidney bowls, battery shelf, front suspension mounts etc,...)

Anyway, wish me luck with the continuing voyage,...

Gavin.

PS If you're struggling with your rebuild - I'm an IT guy, so if I can get this far with no welding training/experience you can too!

Hey Gavin, I'm traveling the same path as you and learning as I go. You can see some of my pics here:
So apparently $1000 get you
I scares me sometimes how much work it is to complete something of this nature. But I know in the end how rewarding it can be.
Keep at it,
Tom

Welcome to the board.

Looking good, Is that Guards red? What engine is in it and what is next on the list?

Thanks Phil.

The colour (color?!) is going to upset a lot of people. It's actually Ferrari "Rosso Corsa" after a neighbour's 360 Spider. It looks absolutely stunning - the pix do it no justice!

The engine is the standard SC 3.0. I'm not a fast driver - so I think that'll be ok,..

As for the next bit - very good question. As the weather here is cold, i'm concentrating on ordering the headlining and carpets. I have put the front and rear bumpers on though.

My girlfriend is encouraging me to have it ready to a trip to Le Mans next year though,..

Gavin.

Color does not offend me, looks great, I did not think it was guards but had to ask. I think it looks great. Mine is not the standard red either and I like it. Might as well do all those jobs while the glass is out.

Maybe the coppers are a little more lax on the older sports car crowd. Let's hope.

Looks great, if you need period correct graphics, I've shipped quite a few over the pond to Pelicans in Europe and the UK.

A little bit further,....

Doing a headliner is fiddly, but it's not rocket science. Take your time and "think twice, cut once",.....
