Question Burnt ignition rotor

I have a 77 911S- 2.7L.

The engine has a miss at idle and sometimes I hear a kind of rattling sound from inside the distributor...especially if Im adjusting the timing. There is very little play in the distributor shaft.

I took a look inside and found a rev limiter type rotor. There seems to be a hole burnt in it close to where the tip discharges...looks like there was some kind of epoxy covering a wire that leads to the contact lead.

I checked with my ohmeter and I do not have continuity between the discharge contact tip and the center contact

Anyone seen this before?

There is a resistor in the rev limting rotors. When you use high-performance ignition systems with higher voltage, the resistor heats up too much, burns, and melts the rotor. Dig out the resistor and solder in a piece of stout, high-quality wire.

Also, someone is going to post to use the 912, non-rev limiting rotor. This is still a RESISTOR rotor. The 911 and 912 both spec out at 5K ohms. I was just in the parts shop with my multi-meter last weekend, checking them all out. I ended up having to do the rotor mod...
