Quarter of a tank, but fuel light on?

Hi all, just got my car (1986 Carrera 3.2) back from a load of work. As far as i know the tank, gauge or sender wasn't touched. The car has approx 1/4 tank of fuel, but the reserve light keeps coming on, which do I believe?
Cheers
Si

It is very easy to pull the sender. It is right on top of the tank. Just pull the sender and check to see if things move around smooth.

The sender for the level and the light are separate and somewhat arbitrary. They indeed have separate circuites to the dash and you can disable the warning light by disconnecting the "W" connection on the tank.

The other question is does 1/4 tank warning bother you?

You can adapt to it, disconnect it, or insert a resistor or resistor potentiometer to adjust the voltage/current to turn on whenever you like.

1/4 seems reasonable unless you are racing in which case you likely are converting to a cell in any case and have other gauge issues.

Cheers for your help. Will have a look.

It is possible that you are on "reserve" - tap on the glass with your finger and see if the needle moves. Maybe the gauge is stuck aty 1/4.
