Well how fast on a normal basis do you go.. I'd say i hit 110 most everytime i drive.. if not then at least 90.. Sorry for breaking rules sometimes but hard not to in these cars..
What about you?? Also how fast have you been in your car or ay other pcar... Drving, just passenger dont matter.. Took my 83 SC To a speedometer reading of 154.. Dont know how much loss the speedo has but damn it was fast..specially on normal roads at night..Ok im stupid but it felt solid so i kept going..Other post was went 177 in a 993tt passenger of course.. ![]() Danny ------------------ 2 People In The World, Those That Have Porsche's, And Those That Want Porsche's.... My $0.04 (inflation) worth.
This thread is more suitable for the ricers so they can brag(lie) about top speed. There is no reason/excuse to go 110-120m.p.h. on a regular basis. As a doctor, I am well aware of the mechanics of collision at high speed. I own a SC ( for 9 months ) and have never explored any 110+ speeds. Before this car I had a Lotus Esprit Twin Turbo V8 that was capable of 175+ m.p.h. and the most I did was 135 at a DE event. Maybe I am an old fart and should be driving a Towncar. But I plan to live a long life and keep all my limbs and organs intact. |

I agree with hhazrati. I have had the p-car up to about 110 twice on normal roads, during the day, but most of the time I don't make 90 before lifting. Than again I use the car as a daily driver (85 mi to work and back), and don't have a radar detector yet.

Think of the possible (and probable) consequences, then find out when your local PCA chapter runs it's DE and/or time trials. ------------------ Doug '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA members.home.net/zielke/911SC.htm |

Oh lighten up! He admits to the irresponsibility of his indescretions more than once in his post. I'm sure he doesn't need us to wave our "holier than thou" fingers in his face to point out the obvious.
I've had my car to 120 once and 110 a few times. 100 more than I can count and 90+ quite regularly. Have fun! Mike 94 C2 cab |

I remember reading an article in Excellence in which one of the drivers that was testing the Porsche turbo cars over the years said that he had to get rid of his C2 Turbo because it was going to get him jailed. The car had a 1000 miles on it with 900 of them spent at over 100 miles per hour. This was on public roads, mind you.

Porsche speedos are hopelessly optimistic. Not 100% sure about C4s but 964 C2s are geared for 25mph/1000rpm in top gear so 6300rpm is 157.5mph so the speedo is 12.5mph optimistic. Which is about right for a 247hp 911.

Whatever. Ummm...speeding cars don't kill people, people do??? WTF. Who knows. Indiscretions of youth. I had my Carrera up to 149 on public roads. And I was 22 at the time...I'm guessing Nut will sort this phase out in a body bag or with passing years. Somebody in his region get his ass to a DE.
By the way, Nut? I see you have one hand on the wheel in your photo, and in the wrong place at that. If you're going to put all our lives in danger by driving like a moron on public roads, at least keep 'em at 9 and 3. ------------------ Dave 1972 911T (E motor) RSR replica project http://members.nbci.com/dtwinters/garage/ [This message has been edited by dtw (edited 06-08-2001).] |

Wonder what the response to this question would be if you asked it to motorcycle enthusiasts?
100mph ain't *****. You can get up and down from there in 15 seconds. A Porsche has good acceleration, great handling, and terrific braking ability. Most bikes are just getting started at 100, and they can't brake or handle like a car! It is up to the individual to use discretion when driving in a spirited manner. It is obvious that high speed driving should not be done when others are on the road. |

Sheesh, if you aren't doing 85+ going west on I-80 into Sacramento, you get ran over by the truckers and the Soccer moms in there SUVs (stereotyping, I'm sorry).
I have to pull everything I got from second just to merge around here.... scary. Some days, taking it easy in my dual tube rear-bumpered blazer is nice. ![]() Yeah, you rear-end my $2000k blazer with your $35k+ SUV! he he he Just don't do it in my P-car ![]() |

Speed in itself is not necessarily dangerous. It's where, when and how you go fast that matters. I often do 85 to 100 mph on the motorways although only 68 mph is allowed. Nothing dangerous in that because I only do it when traffic is light and the weather conditions good. AND I'M BEING ALERT WHILE DOING IT. So many drivers here in Denmark are half asleep or busy reading the newspaper or talking on the phone or shaving or eating etc. while driving at the legal 68 mph. Are they safe drivers just because they obey the speed limit? No, but the state funded anti speed probaganda campaigns here in Denmark makes you think they are.
I'm sorry if I seem a bit angry, but this subject is something that has brought people into hysteria here in Denmark. It's like some politicians are almost religious in their fight against speed limit breakers and forget all other aspects in the process. Ok I'm done now, thanks. |

My fastest in my 79SC has been 150mph, years ago. It was redlined in 5th gear. With my spoilers, the car was extremely stable. My longest period at speeds averaging over 110 mph was Houston to Dallas (250 miles, back when the speed limit was 55). Four of us, all in Porsches, cut the driving time from over 4 hours to 2hrs 20 minutes. This was when I was younger. After I hit a coyote one night in Oklahoma at about 90 mph with my BMW 524 turbo diesel (yes a coyote), I realized that no matter how good a driver I considerd myself, I couldn't plan for deer, coyotes, potholes, truck retread, etc. This coyote ruptured my radiator, front oil cooler, both fog lamps, and destroyed the valance all to the tune of about $2500. The family behind me said it looked like something out of Friday the 13th as coyote parts landed on their car.
Also, now that I have two kids, I've slowed down considerably and mostly drive about 70mph with short bursts above 100mph from time to time. Now I leave the high speed driving for the track. |

Can't help but feel it's damn easy to go fast in a 911, really not hard at all and barely any skill required. The skilled bit is corners at speed, bends, etc. People with a daily need to go over 110 (not many of you, I know) should just get it all out on the track, that's what it's for. Protect your licence (automatic ban for 3 months for going over 100mph in the UK), and get on the track - also protect everyone else too by not driving like this on the road, there always could be someone about when you're flying along over 110: get to the Track!
