what have you had your P-car up to?
A friend recently bought a '91 C4 targa that the PO claimed had had some engine modifications (no documentation, though). I think the PO was being honest, too, because we took the C4 up to 174 MPH, loaded with ski equipment and a full tank of gas!

I had my '86 up to about 145 on the highway on a long straight at one point. Funny how the wind noise drowns out the engine at that speed. I'd like to see where it tops out.

High 130s. Maybe 136 or 137. It wasn't topped out; I was too nervous to push it further.

Only managed about an indicate 125 mph (our limit is 62) but have had an indicated 155 mph on my Honda CBR900 (on a track).

143 on that looooong straight stretch of I-5 somewhere in southern California. Can't remember exactly where because I'd been driving non-stop from Seattle. Some ******* in a BMW was tailgating me in the center lane at about 95 so I dropped the pedal and showed him my taillights. Oddly, since then I've added a passenger outside mirror and rear flares and can only manage 135 now. Aerodynamics play a huge role at those speeds.

A indicated 150 in 4th and I still had some room under the fun pedal, and 1 more gear to go. I was very pleased with how stable it was. The noise was awesome(top down)a nice mix of engine/turbo and wind blast. I still need to do some mods and maint work before I go WFO with it. Bikes are another thing, I have run my modified gixer past 160 often and feel fine doing it. Juan do you think your current setup has 200 in it? Open road racing anyone?

Juan, you must have nuts the size of coconuts to be thinking 200 mph.

My SC hits redline in 5th @ 140mph. I guess that's about my limit as well, start to feel uncomfotable real fast after that. My summer jaunt in a C5 to 175mph brought me closer to God than I really need to be. Being the PASSENGER during that very long 58 seconds may have had something to do with it! Ha!
Of course all this was on a track. |

I've had my 78 up to 130 and it scared the crap out of me. Just because I'm not use to going that fast. Also early today, while going to a fire I had my Fire engine up to 97 mph down hill, and that was cool, because those things are sooo stable.

Not a Porsche, but I had my CBF1100 up to 165 mph (the speedo was pegged) going through the desert from LA to Bullhead. Man those broken lane divider lines become solid at that speed! I had to back off because that semi on the horizon came up way too fast. My friend on his GPZ 750 got a ticket going 75 mph as chp told him it was because he could never catch me. AS for my SC, I got it up to 135 mph in a relatively short stretch of road but backed off. Things just get too scary. My SC is too valuable to me to really push it on the public highway , and anything over 100 mph is classified as reckless driving which means you might as well have DUI on your record as far as insurance goes. It is just nice to know I could go faster if I wanted.

Not a 911, but I've had a modified/lowered Porsche 944 up to an indicated 146-147mph.

I've had my 84 3.2 Carrera up to an indicated 265 km/h twice. I think that it's something like 245 km/h in reality. One has to remember that most speedos reads a bit too much. Anyway it felt really quick (and good), but when a Honda Accord pulled out into my lane up front I got a little scared... Wow those Porsche brakes are powerful...

I've pushed the '76 with 7/31 up to 130, and I think it was the rev limiter that stoped the fun. But it got there real quick.
The 3.3 Turbo I got to 170 many times and there was enough left in the engine for 185-190, but no room to try it. All on the german autobahn. I don't think it's the point with these cars. It's not how fast you go but how you go fast. GeorgeK |

You have to try just once or maybe twice...
What I did would have cost me the license if the police had seen me going that fast. But hey, people do all kinds of silly things all the time.

I got pulled over this morning, and it wasn't even for speeding. I pulled a U turn at an intersection and the officer was coming the other way. There was no sign, and he didn't give me a ticket. I have to say, I was very happy at the outcome.
If only he had seen me on the highway yesterday...... ![]() |

I've had my 92 C2 up to 130 before I got nervous. The car was super stable so I wasn't worried about losing control, but I didn't want a wreckless driving ticket. What amazed me was how quickly and easily the car was able to hit 130. It was a nice sunny day and the freeway was empty. I had about a mile before the next hill so I floored it in fourth. I hit the redline and looked at the speedometer- 130 mph.
