265- V700's or 245- R888's?
Help me decide what tires to run -- V700 VictoRacers 265/225 or R888's 245/225's..
My car is an 86 Carrera w 7&9' x 16 Fuchs. 2750 lbs. Planning on 22/30 torsion bars w stock 22/21 sways. I can get -2.5 neg camber in the back and -1.2 neg camber in the front. I have a stock LSD. I have about two years experience at DE/TT (at ThunderHill in Calif). I drive about 100 miles to the track and drive is once in a while around town say 2000 street miles a year. The V700's are 265/45 at 10.4" wide and 25.3" tall at the rear at about $688. The R888's are 245/45 at 9.8" side and 24.4" tall at the rear and about $865. The R888's seem to need less neg camber but people are having a challenge getting them dialed in. Thoughts or other ideas? ![]() ![]() |

IMO, running your car as a dual purpose car, I would go for the V700. You will get alot more life out of the tire as you car run the Victoracers until they cord and they stay fast the whole time. I for one...as well as many others have noticed that the R888 will go away much faster. I noticed that mine we junk after about 10 heat cycles which is kind of crap, this tire was supposed to be the tire that would take the place for the RA-1 and be the better choice but noticed nothing problems...just my 2 cents. Have you looked in to the Yokohama A048, I have had great luck with these in the past and are cheaper than the Pilot sport cups.

Way good info!
The A048's do not come in a size for my 9" rear. MPSC's could be an option but they are pricey and I hear getting hard to find in 16's. I guess a third idea is to sell my rims and buy a set of Roto Fox replica rims so I can run Nitto's 255/225/17's. |

Keith,
Victoracers are tried and true. I like these tires. You can't go wrong with them because of exactly what kneedragger said. Very predictable, very reliable and the best prices for R comps nowadays. I suspect that you'd be pulling your hair out with the R888, given that you're a rather detail-oriented person. I know you've been debating the 265 and you have received a split jury verdict on whether to go with the 265 or not. I myself don't see the 265/45 as a major negative. It's more tire, but at the expense of a taller sidewall. I suspect the 245 vs. 265 is a toss-up because the 265 gives you more section width to play with, but the 245 is a better fit on a 9" rim. I'd lean toward the 245 myself since the gains with the 265 seem minimal. Also, since you're debating which tire to go with, why buy new? Go to www.nasaforums.com to the wheel and tire classifieds. I bet you'll find some local used tires for cheap. In the past 4 years i've only paid retail for two R comp tires. I've had five full sets of R comp track tires in those 4 years.
