Oil spray in engine bay
I'm finding that I'm getting a black oily spray in the engine bay. Some across the underside of the lid, and some that settles on the right hand side by the oil filter. Can't figure out where it's coming from. It's not a huge amount, but enough to annoy. The stuff that sprayed on the lid was in a straight line...like being flung off the belt or something.
Car is not leaking on the ground, no burning oil smell. No smoke, either. Engine is clean. I should have taken pictures, but forgot to before I cleaned it up. Ideas?:confused

Its probably coming from behind the crank pulley, that main seal

If you have A/C, the compressor will leak a bit that gets, spun out in the manner you describe. Porsches' fix? - A felt washer to absorb it.

Ahha, that might be it. Happen even when the A/C isn't being used? I cleaned it all up yesterday, drove it last night and notice some very light spray under the lid today.

Most likely the A/C compressor seal. It's replaceable. A rebuilder might be your best bet. My brother had the same problem and found that most places preferred selling him a rebuilt compressor for $300+ instead of replacing the seal.
