Trans locked up. Worried.
Started popping out of first , now the car's locked up in neutral! IN NEUTRAL luckily in my driveway. Played with the shift coupler, does not seem to help.
Could this be the dreaded exploding clutch? An internal problem? (in trans) Or something simple? (wishful thinking) 107k and using swepco. also first and second always a bear to get in to. I suspect synchro rings and hubs. Leakproof.

Can't get ANY gear? Time to start boning up on 915 repair.
One place to start is to remove the cover plate and see if the guide fork is loose or broken. That would prevent you from getting into gear as it acts as a fulcrum for your selector rod. ![]()

Thanks, dentist90 for the nice pic. I guess I'm in for one heck of a project.
Actually, I get it in to gear, it moves two feet then the car stops. And then the trans completely seized (not good) shifter would not budge ( even worse). This series of events happened quickly. (bad to worse) Guess thats what happens when worn synchro's are ignored long enough. (theory) Must of been the quick shifting caught up with her. Thanks, Leakproof.

Sounds like you are stuck in two gears at once. What was the last gear you were in? Was it reverse? If so, put the trans back in reverse and smack the shift lever as hard as you can back to neutral. You may get lucky.

Thanks guys, The first symtoms was the car popping out of first and and reving up. Now it feels like somethings broken in there (in trans). Wheels will not rotate and shifter seized.
I think I will start by pulling the cover plate to see if i could see anything, ( thanks, for the idea). Probably end up dropping engine/trans, (first time) and as long as I'm at it, I'll perhaps inspect/ replace clutch (I heard they explode), clutch cable maybe, and work on oil leaks. I'll check the list of things to do (while in there) As far as the trans, is that something you would tackle your self or is that best left to the professional? Thanks Leakproof.

Tranny's are not an easy fix, and can require a significant number of dollars in special tools to repair, more often than not easy stuff is shade-tree, but if gears etc. are bad take it to a shop where they can press what needs to be pressed, heated, etc. and measure all the backlashes etc. Could be the forks are out of the synchros, many speed-shifters put a lot of force on the shifter while driving, leading to wear and sometimes a popped fork. Give it a good eyeball, and use a mirror to look all around inside too.

Talk to Chris Streit of Motodelta (cstreit here on Pelican) in Naperville. He's disassembled a 915 more than he'd care to admit.

Thanks guys, for the good tips and advice.
pulled the drain plug on trans and found approximately ten teeth stuck to the magnet. ( tried to post pics hopefully tomorrow) By opening inspection cover on trans did not reveal anything. Stopped by a Porsche mechanic today in Barrington and he said if I bring him the trans it would be no problem to fix. These guys seem OK, they have all kinds of older rebuilt race Porches on the lot for what appears to be a very reasonable price. (good vibes right off the get go). Anyhow I'm just about ready to drop engine /trans assembly. Went easier then I expected so far. Only one thing holding up the drop, unbelievably it is a stinking set screw on the shift coupler (stripped out.). Probably shouldn't have used Loc-Tite on it last year after it slipped off when I hit a pot hole. Will post pics, Thanks. Leakproof.
