MSD...misfire 3&5 with pattern
I just installed and MSD 6 with new Blaster 2 and MSD plug wires.
before install the car was running smooth for 30 years old. Now after install it is back firing and misfiring on number 3 and 5 at a regular pattern. I plugged the black tach pick up directly to the wire harness from the CDI plug. the plugs are gaped to 1.4 mm or .55 inches. any help or ideas would be appreciated. I did do a search and did not find what I needed. thanks again. |
If you are using the MSD plug ends then you are are in for some fun, just be sure you hear or feel the click as the connector mates with the plug, you can verifyvthat the wire is functioning by hooking up a digital timing light lead. Until you are sure it is not the wire it will be hard to narrow it down to anything else.

ps. 3&5 are right next to each other , very easy to mix em up.

That is what I am doing right now. I am putting the timing light sensor on each plug wire.
I made a tool to help plug in the MSD plug ends. I guess I am just going to pull and check them again. |

Ok then the firing order is ccw 162435. Those wires wont arc if they are properly seated, only if they aren't connected all the way. If they are arcing you will hear them clicking, or turn out the lights and you can see. It may also be that the stock rotor is fried, if itvisnt now it will be soon, so upgrade or modify.

Two searches you may want to try are "msd rotor" and "msd plug wires" click advanced search and add my screen name.
