Help, is this a fake?
I bought this 901 shift knob that was supposed to have come from a 71 911. It arrived in the mail today and seems a bit fishy(see pix below). Although the weight and general appearance seem correct, the clear plastic top is flat/flush with the body. My other knobs are convex and form a small bubble above the body. The knob on the left(in the group pix) and solo is the suspect one, the one on the right is a known original. I guess the main question is were these ever flat on top?

good question: I have always seen them to be round, and our new repros are just as round.
BUT there may have been an early production at Porsche where they were flat ? New to me if they were! Maybe other early car gurus ![]()

It would be really cool if it turned out to be a more rare early production version. Thought I'd try adding some positive karma =o)

Thanks for the car-mah...but it's not too late to return if a fake...but if the flat top doesn't raise alarms right away it just might be one of those oddities from the early days when not everything was always exactly the same.

The shape is exactly like the shift knob in my 68 sporto.

interesting...my 69 sporto is rounded not flat. Maybe it's pre-69.

Could polishing out the cracks flatten the dome?
