jobs???

this is a stretch but what are friends for, right?

i'm living in dallas right now, and have over ten years in sales management with recent experience in starting up an internet B2C web site and currently offering software solutions to dot-coms....i could be labled as a dot-com casulity...

my problem is dot-coms are struggling and i'm looking to get into something more stable, sales, a porsche related career but not selling for a dealership, anything....does anyone out there have any ideas or leads? i've tried mosnter, no luck, hotjobs, no luck, headhunter.net, zero luck....i think it's all about networking, and why not network with people that have the same passion, p-cars!!!

any help or suggestions is much appreciated!

You want to work with Porsches? Heh, I can tell you that you're not alone I'd like that too, but with only 4 or 5 new Porsches being sold each year not much happens here. What you need to do is find a bread and butter job which can sometimes bring a Porsche into your day. Many people repair Fords etc. during the week, but at fridays they bring the Porsches. You can't make a living from Porsches alone unless you really know what you're doing. At least not here.

What about checking with your local PCA?

I think you're on the right track with the networking notion. While the automotive world (including Porsche) has evolved to a high and regular use of the internet, it's limited mostly to commercial activity. Regular use of hiring and other HR-related activity is yet to come (cost-benefit analysis, no?!).

Just a wild and crazy, thought... what about that new race track facility that opened outside Ft. Worth, near Granbury? It'd be a long drive, but what the hey, Porsches are meant for driving!

Good luck!

Networking is ABSOLUTELY the way to go. None of the good jobs are even advertised. I know of nothing off hand, but will keep you in mind.

Heard an intriguing job-search, networking story. Recent college grad held a party, inviting as many people as he/she could think of. Anybody and everybody. Papered the walls with butcher paper and left writing sticks everywhere. guests were asked to write contact names or suggestions on the walls. At the end of the party, this person had MONTHS of contacts to shake down.

Networking is ABSOLUTELY the way good jobs are filled.

that's a great idea! wish there was a way to do that online where all p-car owners could unite, network, etc....
most of us are on the same wave lenght anyway, it would just be cool to network other than pca events....;-)

How about this,

Find some investors and a hire a good wrench. Start a shop seeing euro cars only (they are all the same, same FI, Bosch parts, etc), with an emphasis on customer service, honesty, and good business.

Porsche's can be broght in once you are in business and can start to pick and choose what types of customers you will see, and which ones you will send down the road to other shops who do not discern who they will and will not serve.

With your background in sales and management, you're probably in a good position to organize such a place.

Remember, a profession does not become a business until you can leave for 6 months and still remain stable.

This is what I am planning in about 5 years. I have the investors and commercial property, just need the good wrench and other things in my life to fall into place.

Try reading a few of my favorite books:
Rich Dad, Poor Dad
Cash-Flow Quadrant
The Millionare Next Door
The Richest Man in Babylon

I have found these books interesting, informative, and motivating for me to set myself up in the life and job I really want.

Best of Luck.
Nick.

Jeff,
Are you a Maverick region member ??
I'm in the Hill Country region ( Austin )
How you coming with your horn button?
It's really a nice addition.Here is Austin
a lot of the PCA members are in the " High Tech " industry in some form or annother. The networking thing is the best way to go,unfortunately, now is not the best time to be in the job market here in Texas, alot of companies are cutting back or laying off,I work at Applied Materials and we are not doing that bad, we are just cutting back on overtime and that's not that bad for me,although, the overtime feeds my Porsche habit. The Porsche Club here has our own site as does the Maverick region there,we have a message board that both Dallas and Austin members read, that is where I'd post for opportunities.Good Luck !

I heard there was a Pcar repair shop for sale in Dallas. The business has been around for some years. They do work on other foreign autos too. Think I heard the price was around $215k for the whole thing. Maybe some investors here on the board?
