Noticed a wet gas spot on the return line off fuel distributor on my 77 Targa yesterday. Does anyone know what return fuel pressure is? I can't imagine it's very high. I wanted to find the leak, cut out the bad section and splice in a barbed fitting with appropriate german hose clamps. I don't really want to run a return line all the way back to the tank. A major pia. Thoughts and suggestions anyone?

Bob,

The CIS fuel return line from the FD to the tank is comprised of 3 sections (for SC's). The long one from the tank that goes thru the tunnel, a short one probably just over 2feet long, and the third that connects to the back of the FD. The third hose is probably what you need.

You can replace this by getting a new hose or have your old hose refurbish by a hydraulic shop. BTW, the highest fuel pressure that I recorded for the return line was less than 20 psi. But this could register up to 100 psi if the return line is obstructed or pinched.

Inspect if the leak is caused by a bad hose or simply needs a new sealing washer.

if your 77 is like my 75, that line is one long plastic line (1piece) I spliced mine 2 yrs ago with some 8mm high press. hose and clamps when i swapped engines.

Thanks for the reply Tony, The hose is wet below the fitting on the line itself. Will remove line and replace with new. Don, my 77 has the 3 piece hose Tony talked about. I remember seeing the connector underneath the car where it enters the tunnel. I believe I can disconnect the fitting (carefully) and have the line redone at a hydraulic shop near me. Thanks for the responses everyone!
