Just for fun: How often do you add a quart?

I've always been curious. Haven't you? I'll start us off:
  • I've got a '71 T that's got good leakage/burnage. I add a quart about every 300 miles.
  • I've also got a '90 964 C2. It does a little better. Until recently (it's in the shop for some repairs), I've had to add a quart about every 800 miles.
Whatchoo got?

My 3.0 liter used to sip...I'd add a quart every 2500 miles.

New 3.3 is in break-in period right now, but so far I haven't had to add any in 600 miles or so. I expect this one to drink a little bit more oil though.

Going on 2500 kms with my 89 3.2 and haven't added any yet, even though i get a few oil spots in my driveway and a whiff of Mobil 1 at traffic lights...

1500 miles, knock on wood.

No oil added between changes here.

When it stops leaking... ;>)

Embraer 07-02-2009 07:17 PM

my 3.0 required no oil between 3000 mile changes.

cjares 07-02-2009 07:40 PM

my 3.2L does not require oil between changes.

ischmitz 07-02-2009 08:31 PM

Either nothing or maybe one quart between oil changes on a rebuilt '91 964.

3.0 Oil Usage

I have an 80 SC with very little compression in cylinder #2 - but the others are balanced and healthy. The case leaks from several places - I get about a tablespoon per week on the drip pan but I'm sure that I'm dripping more than that under running conditions, as indicated by the smoking tail at stoplights. It's unfortunate, but I'm not ready to replace the motor with a 3.2. Right now, I get about 1500 to 1800 miles on a quart which is pretty good considering the dead cylinder and the leakage.

Half to quarter qt every 3000 Miles between changes.

tvanbroekhoven 07-03-2009 03:20 AM

3500 miles on fresh 3.0 top to bottom rebuild. Drove from Long Island NY to Key West Fl. after the break in oil came out. Brought 3 qts of oil, 3 qts came home. Still nothing added!

burgermeister 07-03-2009 04:27 AM

1 qt / 800 miles. Some leaks, some burns. 154K miles.

More during track usage.

JP911 07-03-2009 07:53 AM

With Mobil-1 I burned a quart every 1K.

With Swepco I'm not burning any oil between changes.

Bob S 07-03-2009 08:24 AM

Mobil -1 , none between changes

janz 07-03-2009 08:47 AM

"86" 3.2 odometer has 145,000 I use a quart or less every 2,000 to 3,000 miles.

steely 07-03-2009 09:36 AM

I was jus' wondering about that this very morning.
I haven't had a chance to run her much due to the rain or our schedule, but I took a ride this morning and was a little surprised/dismayed at the size of the wet spot I saw on the garage floor.

I have to check - I've put maybe 600 miles on her this season, and the oil gauge is showing halfway.

3.2Carrera 07-03-2009 10:31 AM

it depends on how i drive the car. If i am sitting in L.A traffic and its hot out, plus some spirited driving will mean i need to add a quart every 800 miles, just driving highway means a add a quart every 1000-1500, not too bad.
