3.6 Turbo

Other than a brief ride in a 1979 930, I have no experience with Turbos. Is the 1994 3.6 Turbo the ultimate 911? How does the engine differ from the 993 based twin turbos (aside from having one large turbo vs two small ones)? Is the $30-40k price difference justified?

It's the last of the rear-wheel drive, air-cooled turbos. Engine management is far different, and more primitive, than the 993tt.

Handling is much rawer--snap throttle oversteer is still in the picture, and you can get the tail out in a controlled manner if you practice, practice, practice.

The 3.6 turbo is also at least 2-300 lbs lighter.

I know a guy with a 360 Modena, a 550 Maranello, a 2001 Porsche tt and a 3.6 turbo S. The 3.6 is his favorite car.

It's not very technical, but the latest Excellence issue has a "show down" of all of the street Turbo models (930, 959, 965, 993tt, 996tt).

I've always had a soft spot for the 965 Turbo 3.6 The "old" looks, rear wheel drive and massive power. A perfect combination.

That Excellence article left out the 930. I was disappionted that it wasn't there. I would have liked to see the comparison include a tortion bar car with a modified engine, maybe 400-450hp,

Ruf BTR 3.4 for sale. http://www.stcharlesmotorsports.com
If I knew what I was doing I would put the dang photo up here. Take a look through the dealer inventory page. He also gives a nice list of the Ruf mods. No price though
Thanks Jack

I needed some mid day/week inspriration so I went and checked it out in person. A real deal made in germany RUF with all the documentation. I don't think my banker will understand this life or death need for a car.

david 89 turbo cab
no RUF...yet
