Kenneth,

There is only one small problem with 63301597 ... it has too many digits, there are only supposed to be seven digits!

Can you post a pic, or provide some description?

Please recheck the serial number, and also look for the engines 'type number' ... in the form 911/xx over behind the serial number, in the same vicinity.

If, on the other hand, your 'title line number' is correct, 6301597, then it 'could' be a 2.2 'S' ... does it have MFI fuel injection with six individual stacks and throttle butterflies? There is also a possiblity of confusion between the decades, as the number sequences were duplicated!

Kenneth,

OK, that picture looks like an SC engine, 3.0 liters, but I don't have a reference for that number ... 1980 USA SC engine would read 6401597 ... European, ROW ... maybe?

According to my book, 6301597 could be from a 1980 (A-series) engine, type 930/09 if it was ROW, 930/07 if it was US.

Of course, it could also be from a 1970 911S, which would have the engine type 911/01, but if Warren says it looks like an SC, then I don't need to even look at the picture; it's an 80 SC engine.

Incidentally, if you bought a 73 911 and are discovering by accident that you have a 3.0 liter engine in it from a seven-year's-newer car, you're lucky (so long as originality isn't your goal). Of course, I'd also have to guess that you didn't get a pre-purchase inspection done...

Wait, wait, judging by your website, it looks like you're a dismantler.

Like Jack says, it could also be a 930/09 or 930/07. It sure doesn't look like a 70S motor.

He has a wasted 993 ('96) for 6k. Does that thing have an engine in it I wonder? Probably not for 6k, but I wonder what else it could have useful...

Kenneth,

The mystery is solved! Just got my '79-'81 factory spec book.

6 = 6 cyl. engine type

3 = 911 SC RoW

0 = 1980 model year

1597 = sequential engine number

Engine Type designation = 930/09
