Question Heat problems

When my 2,4 was in my 73 it would get a bit over 200, now that Ive swaped the motor to my 71 it will hit 250 in no time, needless to say Im not getting to drive my car. What has changed you ask, realy only 2 things, I did not put the sheetmetal at the rear of the engine, and the oil tank is the one that was in the 71 when I purchased it which is supposed to be out of a newer car, it is not copper clad. I am at a loss, could the sheet metal not being replaced cause this much heat, I thought it would help some as I do not have an aux cooler. I might add the seal is also missing that seals the engine bay, that is why I did not put the rear sheetmetal back in place yet.

Tom,

Yes, the missing sheet metal is the reason for the high temps!

Put the sheet metal back in place, and put in a temporary seal made of Owens-Corning (Pink Panther stuff ... 3"-4" kind, with paper backing) compressed into place. HVAC suplly store will have some 2" wide aluminum foil tape with Hi-temp. adhesive, and blue waxed paper backing ... use that to hold the pink stuff in place onto the body.

I think you will be amazed at the operating temp. drop!
