Techron Logic
Here's a logic question. I've read in numerous posts and publications that you should do an immediate oil change following the use of techron fuel additive. Due to the oil being contaminated or broken down by the additive.
If so wouldn't running Chevron gas (which has techron added in it) in your P-car contaminate your oil much faster than other brands of fuel without techron? ------------------ Carlo 1988 911 Carrera 3.2 |

Carlo:
The idea is that Chevron puts a much, much smaller percentage of Techron in their fuel. The concentrated amount of pure Techron you put in your fuel, and the mix ratio you decide on, gives you a higher percentage of Techron in your gas. More so if you just filled up with Chevron! As I remember it, you put 20oz of Techron in an empty tank, fill it up, then run 1/2 the tank in a single outing at a good speed. Refill the tank to full again, and run the rest out. What you are doing is not preventative, as simply filling with Chevron gas; you are instead "repairing" with Techron runs, loosening hard/soft carbon deposits so that you reach a baseline after which using Chevron will suffice. Then you can give your car a "goose" with pure Techron maybe twice a year or so. Techron also fills your oil with the crap it pulls off the engine, thinning the oil and making it less effective for the work it is designed to do. An interesting note: when I dumped my Castrol 20/50 and put in the same type, now fresh oil, my leaks disappeared. They started with the Techron runs. Jw |
