O2 sensor install problem w/ euro pre muffler

The universal Bosch sensor (15735-M14) does not fit into the O2 bung of my Gillette euro pre muffler. There's a casing (new pictured left) that does not allow the the sensor to go deep enough inside the pre muffler. I still have the oem cat and it fits fine. The question is whether the casing on the universal can be pryed off or do I need to go with the more expensive 965-606-126-01-M14 sensor? Thanks

If it were me I would weld another bung on top of the one that's there, the bungs are cheap and take almost no time to weld up.
