early S vs SC which would be faster??
just kinda wondering here...if you took an early 911S say 71 or 72 with a 2.4 that put out 180hp and a stock US spec 911SC 180hp which car would run better...quicker...faster etc..

73 911S 190 HP, 2303 lbs.
82 911SC 180 HP, 2760 lbs. My money is on the 73. |

On a tight enough track, even a 2770-pound euro-spec 3.2 liter Carrera, with 217 hp, is probably going to have trouble keeping up with the 73 S. Power is great when you're accelerating in a straight line, but when you're breaking or turning, all the horespower on earth isn't going to do you much good. At least in the face of everyone trying to goose their hp numbers, I'd prioritize weight, then tires, then brakes, and then horsepower.
(Of course, if you can get the power without sacrificing too much weight, then that's okay, too. ![]() ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 02-17-2001).] |

The question is where are the cars going to be used? On a track where the revs are always up the HP of the lightweight S will almost always win, but on the street where the revs are rarely up torque wins(SC). People loved the old US muscle cars not because of HP but because of torque, the same can be said of Porsche the newer cars are more desireable (for street use) because of their increased torque, which is not negated but their incresed weight.
