steel head studs rusting
I am still in the process of getting parts for my rebuild, that is going on 2 years. I noticed this morning that the steel studs on the case have a lot of surface rust on them.
I plan on just replacing the top row with steel. is there something I should put on them to stop the rust or just leave them alone?

I am getting ready for the same, so will be interested to see what other responses. According to Wayne's book, the head studs should NOT be media blasted. I will probably use a brass wire brush to remove the corrosion, then paint with a high temp rustoleum paint.
You may get a few more responses on the engine rebuild forum. Also, I think you mean to replace the lower, not upper head studs. The lowers are the exhaust that are dilavar which tend to break, especially when re-torqued.

I would simply clean off the rust and treat them with an oil. If your cylinders are not installed yet, you could heat them a bit and rub the oil in.
Or buy some Carwell stuff. http://store.carwell.com/ |
