Electrical Help! Front Flasher goes on when I apply the brakes!

This is on a 72T Targa....

I just finished what I thought would be some restoration work on the lights/lenses at all four corners of the car, and now when I apply the brakes, my right front flasher lights steady along with the brakes. ****!

What I did specifically was pull the old, tired lenses, pull both of the front turn signal assemblies and both of the rear taillight assemblies, clean all of the assemblies, clean all of the electrical contacts (including the grounds), re-connect everything, re-install the assemblies, install new bulbs all around, and install new lenses.

What gives?!

Thanks for your help.....

Chris,

I'm not at all familiar with the early 911's.
However, here are a couple of ideas.

1. It would appear that you may have transposed either a connector,
wires, or bulbs. If your car is in the original configuration, you may want to
order a Bentley manual to verify the color codes v/s your re-installation
of the harnesses.

2. Verify that the bulbs that you re-installed are exactly as the originals
by part #, and that they are in the correct sockets.

Dual filament bulbs transposed with single filament bulbs can produce the
symptoms you describe.

This is a very "tricky" situation to analyze on a forum, but these are the ideas
that come to mind assuming that all was well prior to your rework.

Good luck,

Gerry

Gerry has you on the right track, IMO. Check the electrical wiring diagrams on this site (though 72 is not listed, both 71 and 73 are--Bently doesn't cover the early cars) and, most likely, you have an incorrect connection, or poor ground in the right rear assembly. Did you connect the ground wire to the bolt that holds the bumper to the chassis? Did you check to see if the connectors to the brake light and turn light may be touching? When you work the right side turn signals, does the brake light flash also?
Gotta be something simple. Take your time, look at the diagram and recheck all your reassembly. Let us know whatever you find.
