Question PET6 - 7 - or PET2 ??

i have PET6 on an XP which am about to junk as i convert to Win-10 - dunno how i got PET6 or how it was installed since i don't seem to have a CD for it

(i also have a Win-7 PC it could be put onto, which will remain alive for a few yrs more)

found this PET2 offer

(seems to be a bit convoluted ordering process)

and find several PET3 download offers like this http://blog.uobdii.com/free-download...talog-2016-04/
and http://www.uobdii.com/wholesale/spar...-cars-pet.html
- mostly from non-usa sites in places known for hacking - so am suspicious if they contain malware

has anyone bo't &/or installed any of these?

p.s. - don't need the newer cars stuff in ver 7 & 2, but would happy just to be able to run on a newer OS

I keep PET on an old XP computer in the back room. I like the layout and ease of use way better than the PDF arrangement that can only be loaded on Apple stuff.

Exclamation update - PET6 OK on Win-7

update

as an experiment - i just copied the 2 PET folders from my XP C: root over to my Win-7 PC C: root directory

- it works perfectly

folders are PET_PROG & PET_ROOT - the PET.exe launch is in the _PROG folder - just send a shortcut to desktop

then - i found my original PET6 zip file on one of my other drives -

only thing left is to test it on the new Win-10 setup - i'll update when i have an answer to that

PET6 also works fine under WINE (Windows In Native Emulation) for Linux, including printing to CUPS printers on the host. Wine also available on Macs, apparently (I haven't touched one since 2000).

Wine will actually run 16-bit programs (*cough* Windows 3.1) on a 64-bit system; a trick Windows itself can't manage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wine_(software)

Not everything will work with Wine - but it removes the need to run a full-blown VM for anything that does.

PET6 runs in a Win7 VM under any hypervisor (QEMU/KVM, VMWare ESXi/Workstation/Player, even VirtualBox (always my last choice, pretty much the slowest)).

I just downloaded the PDFs from Porsche’s site directly. It’s in the public realm these days for free.

If it’s a one time thing and not for a car I own I just go to DC Auto’s website and search through theirs.
