I just used plumbers putty. Not sure if that's the best thing to use but it's what I had on hand.

I used a bead of silicone to make the gasket for the rear metal plate to seal the housing. Like many, the old putty in mine simply crumbled in to a large mess.

I just run a bead of waterproof caulk all the way around. The screws are what hold the back plate on anyway, so all you need is something to keep the water out.

Are you referring to the sealant that closes up the rear cover plate on the light housing? Or the seal between the taillight lens and the housing?

For the rear cover plate, I used rope caulk for windows in your home. Got it from Ace Hardware

This what I used (although mine is grey). Also used it between body and fenders.

Some Home Depots carry a glaziers' tape, which is an elastomer w/ one adhesive side. Looks like what Garp posted, except comes on a roll, in silver or black.

Yeah, the cover on the back. The rope caulk sounds to be the least messiest method

Thanks guys!
