Question Air Pump?

I am trying to smog my 86 cabriolet and the tech at the smog station asked me where the air pump was in the engine compartment.
I know they were installed on earlier engines but I want to verify that I don't need one for my model year 3.2.
This is for California.
Anyone knows?
TIA.

I have an '86 911 and live in California (Santa Cruz area). My car does not have a smog pump (SC was the last 911 to have one) and passes smog every time. Sounds like you need to go to a different smog station, the person doesn't sound like they know with they're talking about.

Alan is correct.

Our '84 911 , '86 911 , and 89 930 Turbo did not have a smog pump.

Go to another "Test Only" smog station.

Good luck,

Gerry

The US model 1989 Turbo had an air injection pump. It was at the left FRONT of the engine, so it was very hard to see. It injected air into the exhaust manifold before the catalytic converter.

Alan, thanks for the clarification.
Most smog station techs go by their books, especially when it comes to older cars, so he wasn't sure if the 86 needed an air pump.
Good to know an 86 can pass smog every time! Looking forward to having my car "legal" in CA (bought it in Maryland).
