Help with torsion bar calulations please
I am trying to understand how much sway bars contribuite to the wheel rate.
Can someone help figure out the following torsion bar/ lever length's in pounds per inch? 38" torsion bar length with a 13.5" lever on one end in the following diamters: 25mm 24mm 22mm 21mm 19mm 38" torsion bar length with a 10" lever: 25mm 24mm 22mm 20mm 19mm 18mm Thank you very much if you can help. |

SAW used to have an effective spring rate calculator on their website. You'd need to know the spring rate of each spring though.

Thank you for the input guys.
I wish I had the math skills to do it myself. Once I get past percentages, compounding, and or the volume of a circle I start to get lost. I need help. |

k = (3.14159*d^4 * 80000 / (32 * bar_length)) * ( 25.4) / (4.448 * lever_length^2))
bar length, lever length, and radius in mm pi* d^4 * G / (32*L) is the stiffness in N*mm/radian (G = 80000 MPa, pi = 3.14159...) / lever_length^2 converts to linear stiffness (N/mm) * 25.4/4.448 converts to pounds / inch Assuming I didn't brainfart something .... Edit: Brainfarts indeed ... and lots of them ... have been corrected. I Think. That's what I get when not resorting to reference material.
