Weber 40IDA popping
Could use some advice folks...been wringing out my RS clone motor, have about 200 miles on it now. I've been focusing on other issues up to this point (cooler/fan setup is working great, ignition sorted). I've been experiencing popping, it has no rhythm or repeatability to it, seems worse on very light acceleration and steady throttle on the highway. Any ideas or suggestions ?

Welcome to the wild world of carburetors. Intake popping is usually a sign of a lean condition. It may be simply running lean, or just running lean temporarily under certain conditions. I know this is probably not terribly helpful and I'm sure you know more about the Weber 40IDA than I do, but I'm just sayin'......popping usually means lean.
It's a good thing Webers on a 911 are located under the rear deck. That way, it's virtually impossible to place your face over the carburetor throats. BTDT. The eyebrows grew back.

Can't offer any experience with Webers, because I'm running PMO's. However I'm sure some of this would be relevant.
1) I would make sure the valves are adjusted properly 2) Check your timing and condition of the dist, wires, CDI, and all connections 3) Using a Syncmeter check the air flow of each carb at idle, 1500, and 3000 4) By this point, if you have not identified a problem, then I would suggest your problem is internal to the carbs Regards,
