Twin plug dist ; modified or JBracing ?

Hi,
I'm going twin plug on a 2.5 motor ; 2 choices for distributor : JB racing billet ditributor or get my modied by a known builder (Andial, Jerry Woods,...) What is th best option ? Pros and cons ?

JB's are 1500 or so, What can I expect for a modified distributor ?

Thanks !
JD

The JB Racing or the Supertech one, I forget which, has a second bearing added at the rotor end of the shaft. This extends the life & performance of the bushings/bearings in the dist. that support the shaft. And at 8,000 rpm this really helps. I run a Bosch Distributor from an SC with the Andial conversion kit and use the Bosch 12 pin cap & rotor. It performs great and looks original with the engine but will need bushings sooner than the 2 bearing system. And when it's time for me to replace the cap & rotor it will cost me about $900, and that's if I can find a set.
Hope this helps.

There are several options for a twin plug distributor. The JB Racing and Supertec systems are recommended by many. I think Steve Weiner builds them as well as a few others.

I made my own cap adapter that uses a jaguar 12plug cap and a custom rotor from Aaron Burnham (Burn-Bros). Works great.

My 3.2SS Part II - some parts

The only thing you need to make sure of is that you get the correct advance curve for the motor.

I'm running a JB Racing dist and like it because of the adjustability of the interal advance. It's easy to setup and reliable. I also have a Jarvis Tech twin-plug dist which is extremely well built with MSD internals, a Jag cap, and custom rotor. The Jarvis is a very solid unit, with near zero tolerance for lateral shaft movement. However, I have not figured out how to modify the internal advance. The Jarvis is a little more money compared to the JB Racing dist and probably more attractive to those people that want to maintain a factory-look. Steve @ Rennsport can supply the Jarvis unit. I'm running the JB Racing in a 2.5SS and will run the Jarvis in a 2.7 RS Spec motor. Obviously I think both dist are a good choice.

I have the JB dizzy on my car. I have dealt with many, and I can tell you so far everything I have bought or had JB racing do is above and beyond.

I have the Supertec / Burn Bros distributor. This is the one with the second bearing. Do a search for Supertec and Distributor and you'll find information and pictures. It is a work of art!

Uh, you haven't used it yet but "it is a really nice piece"? Like sculpture? Like shiny?

Uh, yeah smart A ... Its well built - excellent construction. Machine work is precise. Well thought out with the top bearing. Nicely made rotor. By all indications a "nice piece".

Sadly, until the engine is built, I can only assume that it will take the electricity and seperate it off into 12 different paths.

Cool! If I need a desk display on a cherrywood stand, I will certainly buy one, smart A that I am. If I need advice on a good distributor, I'll keep looking. But hey, a "nicely made rotor"does get my attention.

I have 2 of Supertec/Burns-Bros distributors and I've used them both. They not only everything Cornpanzer said.. but they work even better.

one might assume a correlation between excellent, precise machine work and functional abilities

You can assume anything you want, but if I were looking for meaningful advice on buying, say, a 1983 SC do I honor the input from somebody who says, "I've never driven one, but I think they're a nice piece" or do I look further? The distributor in question probably is fabulous, I don't know nor do I care, I just thought the advice proffered was amusing.

Ok, whatever pal. You clearly have a beef with someone or something, but your point is made.

Granted, it has long been said that you 'can't always judge a book by its cover'. I know I have made that mistake before. So, with that being said, if your "cherrywood stand" ever has a wobbly leg, I can suggest a suitable gap filler.

Sorry for the derail, we now return you to your regularly scheduled program

I've seen the Supertec, Weiner and JB dizzys and have driven cars with all three. They are all excellent and all cars with each have had no issues. I'll be going crankfire, so it is moot for me...

Morelli double plug

I have several Morelli Double plug Dist and want to convert them to Hall Effect, or whatever. Does anyone have written instructions, and or pictures on how to do this?
