Is 1986 turn signal swich the same as 1977?

Hi all

My car is a 1977 model, and my turn signal swich is not working properly. it swiches from low beam to high beam with any movement of the car.

I found one which was dismentalled from a 1986 car on ebay. can anybody tell me if its the same?

P.s. it didnt try to fix the old one before having another one (in case it will fall apart...) can anybody tell me if you can fix such a problem?

I bought one for my daily driver from an Porsche Center when it started doing that, the only difference was the markings on the stalk itself, as the replacement had the later-style markings with the international symbols.

It's possible you can clean up the electrical contacts and correct the positioning of the little reed switches, but I've never seen anyone write about refurbishing the mechanical portion of the stalk switch, which is what I think causes the problem you describe - that the spring tension inside the switch is just too weak to stay in the correct position. Mine would switch to high beam every time the flashers cancelled...

The difference in the feel of the action between a new stalk and the original is very marked. I bought a new stalk for the washer side a week later, and was very happy with that, too...

I think I'd go for a new one, but your choice.

It is so simple, look in the pelican parts list. How didnt i think of that?!...

I'd go for the new one too if i didnt live in Israel...the thing is Porches were not imported here until a few years ago, and as we have all sorts of silly regulations, we pay 50% duty (calculted so its closer to 100% dont ask...) on anything above 50$ parcel. As i have to order everything from abroad, this ads up...so i have to rty and stay reasnable. This doesnt always work...

I dont think its the spring, as the handel is very tight and it pases from low beam (position) to high with some force. it doesnt feel loose in any way.

Yeh, my switch felt tight, but started switching to high beams after hitting bumps. Car is stiff, but not that stiff... When it started switching to high beams after cancelling the flashers, I felt it needed immediate attention.

The new switch didn't feel any tighter, the force to move it was about the same. It did feel a lot more crisp in the action though.
