And yet they still have a B+ rating...

The BBB: "All our dues paying members are fantastic."

One simple question: Did you check the BBB before going to MM? If not, then you understand why filing a complaint is of little value.

From the BBB:

"Our complaint history for this company shows that the company responded to and gave proper consideration to some complaints. However, most complaints are unresolved meaning the company failed to properly address the complaint allegations or their response was inadequate. "

Nuff said....

From what I recall, if a company decides to ignore a complaint, it's not counted against them (such as in that B+ rating).

I filed a BBB complaint, once, on an auto shipping company. Didn't think it would go anywhere. But, in the end, the company refunded me $200. Better than nothing, which is what I would have gotten had I kept quiet.

Well, every now and then I get a call from our local BBB and they claim they had received a inquiry about my Co. and services. When I then ask for more info, the responded by saying they could not say more. However, they wanted me to join and pay some sort of dues.

I'm not convinced they ( our local BBB ) do anything except troll for mempership / dues.

It's sort of like the AAA scam in which they sell "International Driver's Licenses" for $17 (last time I checked) plus the $10 they charge to take your photo for the license. The supposed International Driver's Licenses are good for just one year, and they'll try to convince you they're "required."

Baloney. When I was at Car and Driver, and now that I write for Conde Nast Traveler, I've driven extensively on every continent but Antarctica, gotten lots of tickets, been stopped by cops, soldiers and bandits and never once been asked for an International Driver's License. Yet even U.S. travel agents will warn you that "one is required."

Oh, yeah, I did get asked for one once--in Brazil, where it's a well-known shakedown, a way to get a $20 (or whatever) bribe. Showed the highway patrolman one that I'd bought 30 years ago, now 29 years out of date, back when I too thought it was required. He never noticed--or perhaps couldn't read--the date.

the media needs to do an expose on the BBB. it's been around so long that everyone thinks it's an all powerful american icon. our parents had a blind trust in it because back then everybody just believed whatever the government and media said was true. they thought the BBB had ultimate control over all businesses. that parentally instilled belief trickled down through the generations and it still makes people hesitant to deny it's usefulness. hell, you get a plastic plaque and every year you re-up, you get a plastic date to pin on your plaque. then when you ask about a known crooked business, they have nothing on them.

we had a BBB complaint filed on us. it was by the lady we bought the business from and her "friend". they tried to claim a $300 gift certificate that was suppose to have been issued by the PO. it was on a piece of printer paper.

Porsche Crest I'm a BBB member

After reading through the posts here, I have to say I'm troubled by the Motor Meister rating at B+ and the effectiveness of the BBB in policing them. There must be something about the ratio of total transactions to complaints that allow them to keep such a high rating. Here's the link to the explanation of ratings page at the LA BBB:

http://www.la.bbb.org/RatingExplanation.aspx?CompanyID=13040699

I'm tempted by all this to contact my BBB chapter (Denver/Boulder) and see what they say about this problem.

i met a guy here about a year ago that just sent his car to them to have it rebuilt. i think he said he saw the add in pano. i am surprised pano still lets the advertise. perhaps with enough complaints, pano will drop them.
he got his car back but i did not get to talk to him very much about it. plus i did not want to interogate him as to the problems he has or may have with his car. the only thing he told me was it had a leak at one of the oil lines.
