New car, what would you do with it?

It was hard to pass this car up, a 73T that is pretty much rust free that's been sitting for about 10 years. Was originally gemini blue (I think that's the right name for a medium metallic blue in 73) but the whole car was painted black before stored. Most of the paint is good, passenger side needs attention and panels weren't set with any great care. All fixable. As a one owner car, there is almost no evidence of IPO Syndrome.

the downside is it's got something of a 69T motor with Webers, though there is a possibility, and a slight one, that the motor has been massaged a little. We'll see when I get it running properly...it was spilling gas out of a fuel line when I first saw it.

I've got some definite plans for it. Sport seats have to go as do the Fuchs, bumperettes, mirror and a few other things.

What would you do?

If those are real deal sports seats, they look like SWB seats. Sell them and finance a lot of cool stuff. Start with a 3.0 or 3.2 motor. Maybe GTS seats? Get the right wheels and have fun.

Very cool pickup, for sure!

Interesting car...

If it was mine I would get it running nice then lighten it a bit by removing the stuff you mentioned but keep the Fuches.

Drive her the way she was meant to be driven.
Take her to a track. Have some fun and get to know the car... She'll tell you what she wants changed in her own way

You should also think about naming her. Something like Francesca or Monica.

I'd do a monster 3.6 to 4.0L, NA, fuel injected ITB motor with a single (stock-ish) exhaust outlet. Lower it, give it the right stance and make it into a dragon slaying sleeper. Add a beefed up, LSD 915.
don't forget to cool it properly. Dual carrera coolers. run the -16 lines through the passenger rocker panel to keep it stock looking.

I'd change the sugar scoops for H4s, maybe yellow lenses.
and on the inside.....I'd do a clean RS carpeting, some retro aftermarket sports seats like those from GTS (I think) maybe with a prototipo.

I might also incorporate some alcantra on the inside, maybe a hand stitched dash cover or headliner. I'm digging the alcantra these days, but use it in a way that maintains the retro sleeper theme.

On the suspension, I'd go stock sport level with 84 to 89 sway bars, TBs and sport shocks. Make it a great touring car setup. I might even update the AC so it could be driven year round.

OK, I just spent about $35k of your money and two years' worth of your free time.

Sound good?

Doug

these early cars are getting pretty scarce. This one looks fairly clean and restorable. If you want to get this drastic with the mods go with one of the 74-78 cars and give someone who can appreciate this car give it a shot try the early 911s registery to sell.

Why for to lose the mirror, Shaun? It's the 'proper' one.

I've never been a fan of the early flag mirror Jeremy. I know it's proper, and good ones like this are rare, but for me, it just doesn't fit with the overall look of the car.

Tubs are readily available for race cars. This is a pretty complete car so it would be a shame to strip it down. My vote would be to repaint in gemini blue. Very pretty color. Clean up interior and make it look original again. Cheers, John

Nice car, Shawn!
I would like to obtain an early car in a barn find state one day, there is just something about them.
If it is in as good as shape as described, it would be a shame to modify it too much, although there is no substitute for more power.
Good luck with it and post lots of pictures!

I would keep the E stockish, and go a little wilder with this one. But nothing that can't be undone fairly easy. I would go through the brakes, fuel system, suspension, bearings and drive the heck out of her. Longer term plans would include a 3.? and original color repaint. Lighten as much as possible.

The paint is decent so it's a good car to enjoy now. Turning it into a project means cash outlay and delayed fun.

Sell the SWB sport seats if they are indeed SWB. (could be LWB minus headrests) Replace the headlights with some H4's, replace the 2.0L with a good 2.7 CIS motor if the car is a 73.5T and then drive the crap out of it.

If the car is an early 73'T then I'd put the carbs on a 2.7 and have fun.

Nice find.

Gemini blue is one of my favorite colors on an early 911.

Gotta say, my '73 coupe is quite the kick to drive with the 3.2. If the engine is toast, this is a great candidate for an upgrade. If the current engine can easily be brought back to life, I'd enjoy it the way it is.

With the value of long hoods trending up (I know we're in a dip right now), probably best to leave the body stock. I added Carrera flares, and have absolutely no regrets, as the car still looks stock to non-911 experts, and allows for some seriously wide rear tires to cope with the 3.2 power in a 2200 pound car.

Outside of chopping this car up with crazy mods, it will be hard to go wrong whatever you decide to do.

Nice find.

Sell the seats, and part the engine out. Buy a good 3.2 to drop in it, and DRIVE it. Or fix the engine and get it running one way or another. Use this to drive and enjoy while you fix the E. I wouldn't turn it into another project just yet. You've earned some time behind the wheel.

Or else you can donate it to my charitable organization for Rich's sanity. I can get you a tax deductible voucher if you need it

Congrats dude, now get it running by October and enjoy some weekends of leaf peeping in the northeast.

Have some tires coming in for these...they aren't pretty, but really don't want them to be.
