Griffiths Kuehl A/C trouble 911SC-- HELP

Have any of you guys installed a Griffiths Kuehl A/C in your SC or have knowledge of these A/C systems. I have no power to the front switch panel, blower fan has no power. The A/C was working fine until my Alternator failed. After I replaced the ALT, now no power to A/C. These problems may not be related. Can anyone help in this debug. Where to probe voltages to narrow down the problem. I have checked all fuses and replaced the fan relay with a known good one, but still no power. Previous owner installed this system so I am in the dark.
Thanks,
Tim

Tim,

Just a thought.

Check the A/C relay near the evaporator housing, and associated connection.

Good luck,

Gerry

I'd check the A/C relay on your fuse panel first (e.g. swap it with your horn relay). If this relay checks ok, then check the lead from fuse #2. There is a modification for an in-line add on fuse from this point to the relay in the smuggler's box. If this modification has been performed on your SC, perhaps this fuse needs to be replaced.

A/c problems...

Tim,

It looks like you'll need to look at a Bentley's schematic and have a multi-meter or a 12V probe light at your disposal to do some detective work. I'm attaching a schematic from the Bentley's manual for "84" cars.

You don't have a Griffiths Kuehl problem, it sounds like you just have an A/C problem. As was said previously, I'm sure Griff might give you some help if you contact him.

Mine went dead just like yours and after carefully checking things out its going to be one of two things.

To test the relay inside of the smugglers box you've got to first determine if you have power to the fuse or is the fuse burnt out. It should be a 25 amp fuse closest to the windshield on your SC.

If the fuse is okay get a test light and see if power is going through the fuse. If it is then check to see if power is going to the red wire on the #30 terminal on the relay inside of the smugglers box.

If the power is there and you can have someone turn the car on and switch the AC on and off while you have your hand on that relay in the smugglers box. If you dont feel it clicking the relay is burnt out. Its $5.99 at Auto Zone in the isle that they keep fuses, part number 84601 - I bought a spare.

If the fuse does not have power going through it and you cannot find the short or break in the wire, you might have to do what I did...run a new 25 amp fused line and plug it in to terminal number 30 on the relay in the smugglers box, that got my system working again. You can do a test by disconnecting the wire on the #30 terminal and running a powered/hot wire to the number 30 terminal on that relay, do it safely and have someone turn on the AC, if you feel it clicking when they turn on the AC, there's a good possibility the AC is back on.

If you need any help call me 480-570-8688 Rob
