86 Targa power seat control module
Hello all, this is probably a dumb question, but I couldn't find anything in the archives. My power seat control module has decided to not let me lean the seat backwards. Now that I've jacked with it, I have the seat too far forwards that it's not comfortable to drive.
I've removed the outer frame and the one screw that was on the left side but the unit will not come out. The left side pulls forward, but the right seems to be stuck. I'm afraid to force it. Got any clues? Thanks, ~Steve ![]() |

I'm disappointed that no one has answered my cry for help yet. Is this just not a cool project... Come on folks, were supposed to be a team here. I can't drive my baby until I get the seat fixed.

I have changed mine a few times. Some times the plastic case sticks to the leather. The switches should come out with the plastic backing. Get a small screw driver behind the backing and between the leather seat and gently pry it out. Work your way around the backing to loosen it.
I've replaced my switch two different ways. The first time I pulled the chair out and replaced the entire switch assembly and pigtail. It's pretty easy to do, but time consuming. The second time, I cut the plastic tie wraps that hold the cable along the bottom of the chair. This allowed me to pull the switch out away from the chair. There was sufficient room for me to cut the wires, and splice the new switch in. If you choose this path, just make sure you have enough room. Other wise you will end up with a brunt chair, or brunt fingers, or a perfectly good $125 switch with no cable harness.

Defective switch functions are often caused by minor corrosion on the contacts. Use only contact cleaner NOT WD40. This has worked for me. Good luck, Gerry

How far are you planning on going with this thing.
If you only want to do a pipe and filter all you need is a power commander or if want to get more out of your bike explosive racing have a fully progamable fuel and timming unit. |

I've also found that the switch housing can stick to the leather/vinyl.
However, the best way I've found to remove it (and I've had to do it several times to clean the contacts and get the seat motors working properly) is to remove the seat from the car and push the switch module out from the back. This also allowed me to check all the wiring and check the motors function before reinstalling it. |
