oil temp gauge question
All;
Have a 77 Targa with numeric oil temp gauge (120degF-300degF). It moves to 120 mark and stays there. Sender p/n is 911 606 112 00. Oil flowing through trombone nice and hot so I know t'stat is open. According to PET, sender p/n is correct. Is gauge correct? If not, what sender should I be using to make gauge work properly. Thanks,Bob |

My '77 gauge goes from 80-340, as does other folk's '77 temperature gauges: ![]() it seems to require the sender you have (which is correct for '77, 930 or 3.2 cars), otherwise it reads way high - see this thread Hot Hot Hot !. You could try an early/SC sender, probably easier/cheaper than swapping the gauge.

Take the gauge sender wire and ground it. That will peg the gauge. At least then you know that the pointer will still move to the top of the scale and points to the sender as being faulty.
Yes, you do need a matched sender and module. The easiest way to solve the problem is with a sender/module replacement like this one: http://stores.newvintageusa-store.com/-strse-14/911-Temperature-module/Detail.bok?sfs=e3d571e2 Mark |

Bob,
As per this screenshot, posted by spuggy there appears to be a conflict in P/N's associated with Oil temp gauge & sender units. Call your local Porsche dealer for the correct Porsche P/N's. Good luck, Gerry ![]()

oil temp gauge
Thanks Spuggy, Mark and Gerry for your responses. Mark, grounded sensor lead, get full scale reading. So I know gauge is good. From PET, my sensor appears to be the correct one,so I will probably change it with new and see if that helps. This 2.7 motor was supposedly "rebuilt", (no documentation) but it has upgrades and seems to run fine. My guess is that the gauge was changed and not the sensor. P.O. was clueless. Will let you all know how I make out. Thanks again, Bob.
