Shifter ID needed
I bought this Shifter used to put in my 1985 911. Please let me know what it came out of. I ran the #'s (911.424.019.06) but getting that it could be 76 to 86??? If it was and 86 I'd like to go ahead and switch it out.
Thanks ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The 77-86 shift housings are all the same. However, the welded ring at the top of the lever indicates that it may be either an 85-86 lever (semi-short shifter) or even a factory short shift lever. The former provides about a 10% shift throw reduction. The latter, about 24%.
Take a look at the rectangular box where the lever pivots. If the hole for the pivot pin is at the midpoint of the box height, it's a regular, factory lever. If slightly above center, it's a 10% lever. If the top of the box is curved to accommodate a raised pivot pin, it's a 24% shift lever. While the shift lever and box are the main differences, all of the above can be installed in this standard shift housing. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
