Where shall i put oil line's rear clip?

Hi!!

Please be nice with my english, as a good french guy i didn't have very good english teaching!

As my oil line (from rear to front of my '78 SC) was about to take its freedom, doing a lot of noise, i saw that most of clips and bracket were missing!

I've replaced the front one :

There are 3 under the car, i know where to put it, no problem with them.

But there is one (two??) other that should take place around the wheel, between the front one and the corner of the oil line to go under the car. This one :

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=999-511-080-02-OEM&catalog_description=Rear%20clip%20to%20attach%20oi l%20line

But as it was missing one my car, i'm not able to locate the exact place to put it, can some of you explain it to me or put a picture?

Many thanks, i'm really tired to search for this location!!

Bruno

Thanks Flat6pac

I know for the one holding the trombone.

What i'm interested in is the exact location of the one holding the vertical section at the rear of the wheel, just in front of the door.
I have no hole to put the bolt in!!

I guess it is under some Rust protection, but i don't see it...

That's why i'm looking for picture or detailed plan...

Bruno,

On our '86 here are the oil cooling line right front fender clamps.

Also, you may want to replace your trombone type cooler with
the radiator/fan type configuration.

Is the Champagne on the way??????????

Good luck,

Gerry

Thanks Gerry, i don't know if it was mounted like that on my '78, but it could.

I have two strange circles in the rust protection, i just have to find a way to make the hole coming out!!

I'll let the trombone, first because it's the original one, second because my oil temperature never get above the half! ;-)

I'll try to find this hole!!

The new one on the second picture is already in place!

I took some pictures!

This were the oil lines make a corner to go to the trombone. le
In red, oil lines are hiting themslef here, so it need some attach clip.
In blue, to bolt hole, but i don't know how to use them!!
In green, what could it be? A part of an old spacer which have been painted??

Here is the vertical part, at the rear of the wheel.
In red, could it be to old hole used to blot some attach clip? I tryed to touch it with srewdriver, but it's vers hard.

In fact, i don't know much more than before. I made something with old spacers in order to prevent oil line to hit themself when driving, but it's not the good solution, i need to fix this problem!!

Je suis toujours preneur de photo de montages sur SC'78 ou 79. ;-)

Crossed oil lines

Bruno,

Something is very wrong with your oil line(s) routing.

One should not be crossing on top of the other.

Did a previous owner replace/repair the oil lines?

Here are two jpg(s) of our '86.

Bon Chance,

Gerry

Bruno,

Remove the defective oil line taking
great care at the thermostat.

With the engine cold, there are some
liquid products that will penetrate the threads
on the oil line/thermostat.

Along with some very gentle tapping,
I was able to carefully remove the oil line
without much difficulty.

When re-installing the oil lines ALWAYS
use anti-sieze paste, the same stuff we use
on our lug nuts.

I know that a new part is very expensive.

So:

Go to a Porsche wrecking yard or,
try used Pelican parts.

They might have the correct oil line.

You should not do a "home made" attachment
as the oil lines will rub against each other,
will probably not last very long,
and you will have 12 quarts of oil in the street.

Good luck,

Gerry

Bruno,

I would put some plastic or rubber between the lines where they touch and use "home-made" attachments.
You can drill small holes in different locations for the new brackets and use sheetmetal screws.
Anything to avoid disconnecting the lines at the thermostat.
Working on the fittings for the thermostat can be very tricky and frustrating.

As i don't want to have problem whit the thermostat, i won't disconnect anything!

But don't worry Gerry, i'll do home-made attachement by adapting Porsche parts to my oil lines and i'll take care to avoid them rubbing each other.

I have got a few ideas in mind.

I'll let you know about it!

Hi guys!

So, i put 3 Porsche attachment under the car, as Porsche did.

It avoid oil lines to make their own way on our wonderful french roads!

I put one spacer (http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/more_info.cgi?pn=964-207-302-00-OEM) ont the lower oil line, to avoid it to hit higher oil line, and one other on higher line to avoid it to hit the internal wing.

No more noise from it, as i fixed another noise, my SC is only giving me some engine sounds! Lovely!!

As my car don't warm a lot (wee had 30°C today and the tempreture did not reached the half ) SO, i'll one day change those damned oil lines, but i've got lots of little things to do before. When something works well, I don't try to improve it!!

Better is the ennemy of good.

The three attachments under the sill are wrapped with what is pieces of bicycle tire tube to insulate the pipes from eachother.

Hello Bweissach,

Since you are not considering at this point changing your trombone for a Carrera oil cooler I thought maybe this could help you. I have one in my car, you can see it in the pic.
