1969 911 badge location help

I did some searching but if someone finds a link to a thread that will tell me where to put my badge on the front trunk lid... I cant find it... my holes are totally covered.. I have a 76 but from pics I've seen this far the badge is WAY further back than my 1976 example...

Also.. any ideas on how to drill these holes thru my $6000+ paint job would be helpful.. Im dreading this and should have done it before it was sprayed... I guess a punch lightly smacked with a hammer would be smart.. ??? I guess there is lots of room for a major screw up behind the badge.. but still...

Just found this:
Brad,
I still have the badge on my 70 but the measurement from the leading edge of the hood to the pointy end of the badge is 6 1/2 inches. Hope that helps.

Can someone verify this for me??

Also.. I was thinking about cutting the pins and using silicone or something instead.. not worth the stress.. seems to stay on my 76 that way.

If you go that route a better solution is good quality 3M double sided emblem adhesive.

On my 1970, the holes are exactly 8 1/8" from the front of the hood to the centerline of the holes. Luckily I havent put my badge on yet so I was able to get a good measurement. HOpe this helps!

Here is a photo of the backside.
Note the slight recess in the panel for the badge pins.

The distance from the 'center' of the pins to the 'edge' of that recess is 11.6 MM

I would drill from below. I would measure the approximate location (on top) and place overlapping strips of masking tape on the painted surface and one strip below (drill side). Use a very SHARP (NEW) drill bit that is undersized.

Once those 'pilot' holes are drilled, re-drill with the proper size bit.

The masking tape will help avoid the paint 'flaking' at the holes.
