RE: the 'defrost' fan noise.
You know that the top R to L lever in the heater/air (24 in the pic above) controls the fan? If it's working properly, L is off, Center is on without fan, further R is increasingly higher fan speeds (3 speeds). Try moving that lever to the L. Do you have the fan noise when the car is running but stationery? Get a glovebox manual for your car (that's where the above pic is from). They are on ebay often for varying prices. It will explain the complex heating/venting system. Also the separate A/C system should you decide to get it up and running (I did). |

yes i know about the fan controls. lever is all the way left, fan noise is not present when running but stationary. while moving (at freeway speeds) the noise of the fan is present no matter where the lever is. there is no change in noise from far left to far right. finally got back into town so i can start hunting for a manual. |
Buy a roll of blue masking tape.
Seal off top. Drive fast. Say, Eureka! I've found it! Repeat, if necessary, to convince others. JR PS. Owners's manual here: http://retromotorworks.com/1983911scownersmanual-refurbished.aspx |
