I'll be there - just me and I'll be bringing one car.
|
maybe you can include a little altitude in the run

Ok...we're good to go...for Saturday am.
Nederland RTD...get there early...as we leave at 7:00 am. Looks like a decent turnout. I'll call the restaurant as we leave Ned and head north so they save tables for us. Bring your detectors... and cameras :D Not necessarily in that order
Speedo |
I'll be driving from Boulder to Ned tomorrow, heading up the canyon at 6:15. Hope to see some other P cars on the drive up. Probably will do a bit of with the crew on 119 before peeling off and heading back down to B-town. I've got a very busy weekend with a long "to do" list, so can't make a day of it (and the car is somewhat suspect for longer drives, although one day I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for it!).

Ok...see you guys at the RTD parking
Not sure what to expect , but we will roll at 7:00. Fast guys will lead with their escorts...
See ya in the am Speedo |
I just wanted to thank everyone this morning for letting me tag along for a bit. It was really, really tough to take that right hand turn at Ward off of 119 and head back down to the Front Range (especially because I knew that in an hour, I'd be at Home Depot looking at tile for a bathroom remodel, blech!).
I know you guys are still out there right now, so I hope the rest of the day was just as great for everyone else as the first few miles were for me. The solo blast down Left Hand Canyon was awesome, as were the sweepers on 119 outside of Nederland with 6 or 7 sweet P cars in front of me. Wonderful visuals and good fun! I hope to do this again soon and I look forward to all the pics. Thanks to Speedo (Lars) for getting it all together. --- Tom '75 targa |
Good times...glad I had a chance to meet everyone. If everything goes according to plan this winter (when does it ever?), I'll have my '72 along for the next drive. Here are a few pictures from the morning...

Lars' Colorado Loop
What a fantastic day. Thank you to Lars and Beth for making it happen for son James and myself. Great weather, views, food, and company! I'm looking forward to the next trip. Fall colors anyone?

My report....
I'm not the official camera guy...but I took a few. Some of these are more of a documentary, and some are just to capture the magnitude of where we are lucky to live...
Night before...pre-tech http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646378.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646468.jpg Early start http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646511.jpg I tried various ways to get pictures of the line of P cars...this is a test... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646664.jpg Two 1966 cars that started life as 912s...one stayed in the hometown, and one went out into the world:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646775.jpg Second attempt at "backwards photography http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646891.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251646979.jpg Coming in to Estes Park http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647279.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647377.jpg |
Up to the divide
The red 912 pealed off after breakfast, and the rest of us headed up...traffic was not bad. The Boxster that led the way up didn't care, he would pass anybody anywhere. I decided that the best way to take pictures behind me was to just hold the camera out the window facing backwards and shoot
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647722.jpg I also wanted to get a good picture of my rain gutter http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647846.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647898.jpg This road is amazing http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251647959.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251648086.jpg The closer you get to 12,500 ft, the lack of guard rails adds to the excitement of taking pictures while driving http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251648150.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251648326.jpg Top of the world http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251648426.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251648488.jpg |

Onwards to Winter Park

That's what should have been filmed...four sled pile-up on the last run:rolleyes: End of the day and a couple hundred miles later http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251649172.jpg Carbs were not a problem at altitude...and the trip was a great success...thanks all! Man that looked like fun, sorry I missed it.

You and me both. Something about my first wedding anniversary being important not to miss... Heh. Next time.
|
BTW, for those in the flatlands, those 6' extensions on the guard posts in the pic above "Top of the World" and a couple below it, are for the snowplow driver; so he can see where the road is when the snow is nine feet deep.
It gets a lot deeper, but the road is closed all winter. |
Looks like an awesome run, Sorry I had to miss it:(
Great photos! Hveing been up there so many times, I know exactly where some of those pictures were taken. Is there somebody who can put names to the faces (and thier cars) we see in the photos? It's always nice to see who's who in this online world. Thanks for sharing the pics SmileWavy Craig |
Dang it, I am sorry I missed this thread. Although the inlaws were in town so I probably only could have doen the morning bit.
I was on one of these years ago to Estes Park from Boulder in the black cab I had at the time. Bill |
Here are a few more! Notice in the second pic that Lars is sticking his camera out the window, taking a picture of me at the same time. I think his picture of me is the first one above in post #30!
