Current Excellence Values for 1983 911 SC Targa
I'm hoping a fellow driver can help me out. I'm going through an appraisal process right now and I neglected to pick up the latest issue of Excellence (I think July 2009 issue) in which the Porsche Market Values for the 1983 911 SC Targa were listed. Can anyone who has the copy please respond to this thread and list the values for poor, good and excellent conditions? I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

As it so happens, it was sitting on my kitchen counter, open to that article.
so-so: 17, 220 good: 19, 442 excellent: 25, 688

This is sooooo funny. With the number of SCs out there for sale, if you pay more than 12K, you better have a museum piece. Everytime I see this article, I run out and pat my original '83 and tell it that it's one step closer to being my retirement fund. . . For some reason, it (the car) doesn't respond.

I come from a family that used to own GM Dealerships...15 years ago and to quote my uncle. There is an ass for every seat.
I bought my SC in June and must have looked at 20 of them in various parts of the country. I was fussy and in spite of all that my car still needed lots of TLC to get it where it is today. So, I believe this pricing because you get what you pay for. Its been written all over this board, if you want an A+ car, its going to cost you close to $20K before you're done. If your car is in great shape and EVERYTHING WORKS, follow this pricing because a $12K SC needs a minimium $5000,00 worth of work done to it unless Helen Keller is selling it and doesn't know anything about value's. A $17K SC has a stellar paint job, all mechanicals refreshed, rebuilt or replaced, cold AC and perfect interior. A $12K car does not, END OF STORY.

Yeah, the "ass for every seat" is most often used in trading race cars in the Porsche world, or so I've seen in the 20+ years I've been involved in the culture. I stand by my conviction: A 20+ year old car, if it's been driven regularly will not command those prices. My 83 has 114K on it, and I know every mile. Would I try to sell it for 20K? Only if I were to pay a visit to the recreational pharmaceutical cabinet. Further, I'd expect the guy who was there before me to pay that much. . . Glad you're happy.

There are lots of cars out there in pristine condition with low milage (that means 50 to 75K miles). As I mentioned above low milage, with A+ paint, interior and cold AC are going to bring 15-16-17K.
