Rear ride height eccentric bolt adjust size

Hi All,

I know this topic has been done to death - largely cause i have read most of the posts on the topic, but i need a couple of things confirmed with regards to adjusting the rear eccentric bolts for ride height.

1) Am i correct in saying i will need a flat 36mm spanner for the spring plat height adjustment eccentric bolt, as well as a flat 24mm spanner for the lock nut to adjust / hold them on the rear side of the spring plate?

I need to buy these so am keen to confirm.

2) Also - what is the maximum height adjustment by this method? I understand that reindexing T-bars is a better way to go but i only need a relatively minor adjustment (i.e. one inch or less)

Thankyou kindly in advance.

Chris in Australia

1-Correct. Bicycle shops carry some sizes in thin wrenches.

2-Depending on where the springplates/eccentric bolts are now, you MAY be able to get an inch of adjustment either way.

If they are centered, you will maybe get .25 to .50 inch. if you post a pic of them we can probably get you a WAG on how much movement you'll get.

Ok guys i managed to borrow the 36 and 24mm spanners i need from the local porsche mechanic - good saving there.

But i cant for the life of me get the locking nut undone (one closest to the torsion bar). Is there anything i can do other than go and buy a giant bar wrench to do it?

I already put the jack handle over my smaller bar wrench and broke it off.

I am worried i am going to break the socket if i get a bigger bar wrench.

Anything else you guys would recommend?

Thanks in Advance.....

Cheers,

Chris in Australia.

Yes you need a bar wrench/breaker bar in 1/2" drive size with a cheater pipe slipped over it to get enough leverage. And yes if you have cheap sockets you can break them doing this. Been there. If you can get the rear of the car high enough or put the car on a lift, you can get a better position to tighten/loosen with a long bar when you are directly underneath the car.

Another alternative is to remove the spring plate and tighten it on the bench with an impact wrench. But that sort of defeats the purpose of precisely setting your ride height with the eccentrics, doesn't it?
