Is turn signal switch fixable ??
My turn signal switch has become "wobbly" with time, this means it jumps from low beam to hi beam whenever I hit a slight imperfection on the road or when I signal a turn.
Before shelling out some reasonable bucks for a new one, I would like to know if the old one can usually be fixed in some way, maybe a new spring ? Does anyone has done it before ??? |
This is a great question. I have a simular problem. I had to wiggle mine to get the low beams to stay on. Now that they are not working at all. There must be a way to rebuild them...
:( |
There are lots of posts on how to rebuild and repair... search for headlight /turn signal switch on this forum...
Although mine had the same problem,i waited too long and it was beyond repair when i took it apart. Pelican sells new switches !!! |
What will happen is you will get the unit out of the car and find like I did, it is beyond redemption, just worn out. Then you order a new one from our host and wait a week or so of down time before you can have the part to install.;)

If that's all that's wrong with yours then you should try this, I just did it for mine, just 8 screws, can't get any easier. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/248149-turn-signal-switch-quick-fix-pictures.html Take care, SmileWavy O- |

Get yourself a new one. It is PITA trying to repair the old one ask me why. Order wait and when you receive it install thats all I have to say about that.....
|
Only one problem. I replaced the original (1985) switch last year. Now the replacement is doing the same thing. Turn signal cancels, high beams come on.
I installed relays on the headlights at the same time that I replaced the dimmer switch fwiw. |
For what it's worth,go ahead and purchase a new one from Pelican... I bought a used one on this forum and the guy shipped it ten days after i had paid him and had the wrong street name on the mailing address so it took almost one month for me to get it...
All that to save $60.00 dollars off the cost of a new one .... For anybody attempting the replacement,do yourself a favor and remove the light switch as it is sooooo... much easier to change/connect the wires with the switch hanging below the front panel !!! Pry off the cover from the switch knob, remove jam nut with a 10mm deep socket and use a small screwdriver to unscrew the plastic "washer"and pop the switch out through the front panel ! |
It's really an easy fix... clean out the built up crud, bend the connectors slightly as described. Mine did it for years until I found the fix on this forum. No problems since...

I bought a new one and installed the relays and it still does the high beam thing all the time.
