painting MAG Wheels

I am planning to paint my mag wheels. Has anyone used the Dupli color mag paint kits for mag wheels. I am curious to hear how well it holds up.

Hi,

I painted my Fuchs with the semi-gloss black and it is holding up OK. I did alot of prep work and was happy with the finish up front.

I think at some point however I am going to have them powder coated.

I haven't used the Dupli-Color kit, but I have painted my wheels.

As suggested elsewhere in this forum, Rust-o-leum 7777 Satin black enamel is a very good match for the original Fuchs black on my '87 16 inchers.

I painted my Fuchs with Rustoleum semi-gloss black. I like the results...they were painted about 4 years ago....still look great.

I painted my wheels with Dupli-color, it has held up very well so far. The key is prep.

MAG?? wheels

jayh,

Are you asking about "mag" wheels (as in magnesium), or are you asking about alloys in general (like Fuchs)?

If true "mag" wheels, they need special prep, and most commercial paints do little to prevent corrosion. Will elaborate if interested.

I purchased a set of OZ rims I assuming they are Alloy the same as Fuchs. Is there a way to tell if they are alloy or Mag?

Has anyone painted 16 inch Fuchs to look like the 15 inch Fuchs where only the back of the spokes of the Mags were black. I would love to make my 16's look like the original 15's on my 73 E. Just seems like a lot of work X 4 wheels. A template would make it a lot easier.

cmcfaul....yes it can be done. It is a lot of work but it just takes time....there is no template...if you want it to look factory I suggest you send your wheels off to one of the two popular wheel refinishers you can find here on pelican.....If you want polished spokes and rims you can do it yourself.
