7348409
7 = Transmission for 6-cylinder engine
3 = 5-speed 915/06
4 = Model year 1974
8409 = Consecutive transmission number

This is the standard 5-speed for 1974 911 USA, 911S USA and 911 Carrera USA.
Number range: 7340001 to 7349999 (This is a very late example)
11:35, 18:33, 23:29, 27:25, 29:21, 7:31
It will have all magnesium castings and a mechanical speedometer.

The 915/06 was also used in the 1975 RoW Carrera.

Best,
Grady

That's a decent site but someone really needs to go in and flesh out the information regarding serial numbers and ratios. It's also incomplete. For example, the 915/06 being asked about here isn't even listed there.

austin,
Just an FYI, that gearbox should have a 7:31 ring and pinion. While it won't have the very desireable bolt-in mainshaft guide tube, it does have the short ring and pinion in it.

Ah, didn't notice that one was missing, oh well I think I plucked the link to that site from an old Pelican thread anyway.... I'll just delete that link and create one to PM you whenever I have a 915 question.....lol
thanks

Thanks Matt. Yes, I did some research but couldn't find the 06 listed in my books or online. What was your source?

4000 post and just scratching the surface.

Hello Austin,

The factory books. I'm in the gear and transmission business, so it's kind of my focus.
