1984-89 911 DME - local help requested

Hello All,

Hoping to find some support for my 911 that will not start. After working with folks on this board (thanks!)...it is looking like my DME unit. Do to some timing issues, I was hoping to verify this before sending it out to Ingo for work.

Anyone in the South East PA (pottstown, allentown, KofP)area willing to help? Just want to swap DME units for a single starting test. I am being told that 84-89 are they same for this test. 84-86 and then in 87-89 memory was expanded....both models will work.

Please let me know...Dave

I can help if nobody closer speaks up. I had a DME issue last year that I needed to figure out and I did the same thing with another nearby Pelican before sending mine out for repair. Unfortunately, I will be out of town for the next 3 weekends, so you may want to meet someone closer that can help you out sooner. Any 84-89 Carrera will work.

I have read that it is better to put the potentially bad DME unit into the car that is running properly, rather than put the known good DME unit into the car that is not running. (i.e. we should put your questionable DME into my good running 911)...This is just incase a short or some other electrical issue is what fried your DME in the first place.

Hi, I had a similar problem recently , it turned out to be the fuel pump , not the DME relay. However I was told to prove the DME if you pull out the DME and short out in the wiring socket pins 87, 87b and 30. If the car starts its the dme at fault.Hope this helps.

I changed out the relay with a spare (2x). I can smell fuel from the exhaust after cranking it over.
