Before I do anything stupid.....

I've got a sweet lead on a set of Cobra Misano seats. They don't have tracks, there's nothing on the bottom of them except holes to mount tracks. I'm pretty sure that's not a big deal as I can buy them. I did a search on this and as usual I get lots of info but not the anwser I'm looking for. My question is what is involved in putting adjustable seats in an SC? Will I have to remove the tracks that are in there? If I don't like the seats can I get my old ones back in? Is there a seat that you can use the original mounts?
These were purchased for a 996 but the car was sold before the came in so the seller is stuck with them. He's offering them at a VERY good price. I'd love a better seat than the stock SC seat but I don't want to have to fabricate, weld, etc.... to get them in. What's the normal procedure for installing an adjustable seat? I see most folks here are doing fixed back seats for track use. This is my daily driver and I use my back seat area alot so I need the adjustable. Thanks, Mickey

Here's the seat

Without seeing the bottom of the seat it's hard to tell if they'll bolt right in but they should. Those look like very nice seats, BTW. maybe the seller could take some measurements of the bolt holes for you.

I bought generic fixed back race seats and the stock SC mounting brackets only needed to have the holes enlarged a little bit for it to bolt right up.

I now need to have access to the back seats as well so I just bought a set of Corbeaus from a fellow Pelican.

EDIT: yes, you should be able to use your stock SC seat brackets/rails

Seat Mounts..........

I put some aftermarket adjustable seats in my SC a few years ago. When mounted on the original slides, I did not have enough head room (I'm 6' 1" tall). So, after studying the problem for a while, I made some lowered mounts that hang below the stock mounting brackets by way of 6mm bolts that go thru the stock bracket lip (pointing down), use a spacer and then add a 1/8" metal plate that runs from side to side. The new seats came with sliders that would just fit between the stock brackets. I bolted them to the plates using some more 6mm bolts. Everything is very solid, and I can convert back to the stock seats by taking out a few bolts. The brackets on the passenger side run front to rear because of the CIS control box that lives under the right seat. By mounting the seats in this manner, I gained about 2" or so of head room. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the modified brackets.

Well, it sounds like they may fit, and if not, they will will minor fab/mods so thats good. I think I'll buy them. If they're too much trouble to fit maybe someone here can benefit from the deal. I'll just pass it along. They're black leather with carbon fiber backing, very sharp looking seat.

So I call the guy today and tell him I'll take the seats. He informs me that he'd made a mistake and wrote 'pair' instead of 'each' so it wasn't as great a deal as I'd hoped. They're really nice seats and he's offering them at about 50% off retail but still more than I'd want to pay.
The problem is I got all excited about having some supportive, good looking, lightweight seats and now I must have them . I did a search but again, mostly fixed seat comments or outdated models. So I'll ask you all for your input on which is the best choice for an adjustable, preferably vinyl or leather, sport seat that requires little to no mods to install in a 83 SC? The price on the seats at this place was $2400 for the pair which is a little rich for my blood. I'm in no hurry and was wondering if there are any "deals" at the Hershey Meet in the spring? On that subject, will I be able to purchase other things from manufacurer's like Rennshift, Rennline, etc....while I'm there? I could just wait until then and pick it all up on one weekend.

I really like the Misanos in my '87 944 turbo. Get them. Stimulate the economy.

Wow, $2400.00 is rich for most everybody's blood!!!

keep your eyes on the classifieds here and over on Rennlist. EBAY has a bunch of seats right now. Some are good, quality versions and others are questionable.

EBAY-http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories-/6028/i.html?_kw=racing&_kw=seats&_ckw=Porsche&_dmd=1&_dmpt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&_sop=1&_trksid=p4506.m104.l1198

Look into factory sport seats. You can usually find them for sale for around 800-1000 per pair, in great shape.

there are a few different versions but all will bolt right in. Most are power so that may be an issue you would have to take care of if yours are not.

See if a Pelican with a set is nearby and try them out. I like but can't justify spending that much for seats right now. I got a great deal on the Corbeaus I purchased.

Once I get them, I will let you know they feel.

if you're not picky, there's a replica of those Masano seats on Ebay, $350 or less, delivered to your door, for two.

Otherwise there's a pair of very good condition black 993 seats with 20k miles listed somewhere.

Thanks guys!
The guy selling the knock offs is only about an hour from where I live. I emailed him and asked if I could pick them up. For that price they're worth a look. If they're really crappy I can always make an office chair out of one and use the other for my Play Station driving seat .

I just got off the phone with them. They should be here in a couple days so we'll see. I don't have super high expectations so I won't be disappointed if they're total crap. Like I said, for $300 w/shpg I just had to. They are good looking seats in the picture.

Mark,
I have a number for them if you want to call them. I'm sorry, I didn't see your post until after I ordered them so I didn't ask about shipping to Australia. PM me and I'll send you the phone number if you want it.

Mickey356,

More interested in the quality at this time. I can get cheap seats here in Oz for about $400AUD but the qality would have to be questionable...?

Look forward to the update.

Mark.......

Gotcha Mark. They should be here in a couple days. I'll let you know if they're worth the money when I get a look at them.
