nice louie, did you make that or is it a wotnot laying around that just happened to look like that. good idea, got any more?

Louie85 09-07-2009 06:34 AM

While working on my car I broke my second connector, I showed it to my machinist neighbor and told him can you make we make this and he said no problem. I'll ask if he can make some more and how much.

Halm 09-07-2009 07:28 AM

I am a little confused by attaching what appears to be the O2 sensor from the exhaust manifold to the machined part. Is the new part to replace the ceramic component that is attached to the wiring loom?

If it does, in fact, replace the wiring loom component and it works, I am willing to pay real $$$ for one.

Louie85 09-07-2009 07:43 AM

Hal, The black O2 wire plugs back in the to the damaged connector and can be secured by a large heat shrink and can be tuck in behind the wiring. This way no need to replace the wire o damaged connector. I'll take some more pics installed in my engine compartment.

Halm 09-07-2009 08:24 AM

Louie, Sometimes I can be as dumb as a box of rocks, so pardon me again.

In your first picture the new machined piece is sitting on a black pad. In the background is what I think is the wiring loom connector to which the O2 sensor plugs into. Is the piece in the background what the new machined piece replaces? And the other picture illustrates how the wiring loom would attach to the new piece?

Sorry I am so dense on this.

Louie85 09-07-2009 08:38 AM

Yep, the new machined piece replaces the broken connector and the black wire came from an old 02 sensor which I soldered a connector at the end to mount on the new replacement piece. There's not much room there when this piece is mounted so the easiest way is to have a 90 deg connection. I'll get some more pics for this afternoon.

Halm 09-07-2009 08:58 AM

That is terrific. I look forward to seeing the pictures.

Louie85 09-07-2009 10:37 AM

Installation pics.
The beauty of this connector is that the rod goes all the way to end of the connector, not like the original that creates a weak point at the connection. If there's enough demand we can produce the connector and be available at Pelican parts.

That looks great. I'm on my 2nd broken connector as well. I think I would be interested.

One unrelated queston...when you spliced your connector, how did you deal with the shielding around the green wire?

Gogar 09-07-2009 12:00 PM

That looks great, I'll buy one!!!

I don't think I understand why you don't just snip the green wire out of the old connector and solder/connect it directly to your new part, though. Lose all that old stuff.

Louie85 09-07-2009 12:27 PM

"One unrelated queston...when you spliced your connector, how did you deal with the shielding around the green wire?"

I only used the center wire, the oem connector only uses the center wire.

"I don't think I understand why you don't just snip the green wire out of the old connector and solder/connect it directly to your new part, though. Lose all that old stuff."

That's another option one can do, I did this just to show how to deal with old damaged connector without cutting it.

Halm 09-07-2009 12:43 PM

Louie, that does look terrific. Maybe the Carreras are different than SC's and hence my questions.

If you neighbor wants to make a limited run of these, count me in.

mickey356 09-07-2009 03:45 PM

That's cool! I love the "better mouse trap". I too would get one as I've already broken one so it's only a matter of time that I break another. Count me in if you're taking pre orders.

petercory 09-07-2009 04:17 PM

I also need 1 for a 3.2!!

don gilbert 09-07-2009 07:25 PM

the only prob is, to utilize that connector, you would have to buy the oem 02 senor, around 100 bucks. you can get a Bosch one wire at most parts stores for 19.95, its the same thing, just diff, connector. and you cant use solder for any conn. on the 02 wire, it affects the milli volts that travels that wire.

Louie85 09-20-2009 05:36 PM

Update:

We made 10 connectors, also trim the back end a bit to give more room on the wiring harness, Please PM me if anybody is interested in this first run. If enough demand will have this available in the pelican parts.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253496688.jpg

Halm 09-20-2009 05:58 PM

PM on the way. I'll take one.

CMXI-SC 09-21-2009 03:42 AM

I'll take one. Let us know cost details.
Thanks

Louie85 09-21-2009 02:02 PM

The repair kit will be $35.

Louie85 09-21-2009 05:06 PM

Louie85 09-21-2009 06:31 PM

Thanks Gogar, it looks much cleaner without that old junky connector.

Halm 09-21-2009 06:36 PM

Ok, one last question, I promise! :D

When you cut the old connector off, how many wires are inside the green insulation? If more than one wire is there, which one did you connect?

Gogar 09-21-2009 06:39 PM

The green wire is just one wire.

Louie85 09-21-2009 06:46 PM

I use the center wire. strip the shielding far enough about 1 in. cut the shielding and strip the center wire, crimp the electrical connector, finished it with some heat shrink.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253587390.jpg

theiceman 09-22-2009 04:49 AM

35$ for a totally custom part ? I'd be grabing that quick even if mine wasn't broken ( yet) but alas I have a 78 and no such device to worry about .. great Job guys ..

BayPawn 10-20-2009 01:17 PM

Louie,
The connector looks great and was very easy to install. Kudos to you for coming up with a very economical and well made fix. Thanks, Phil

Louie85 10-20-2009 03:53 PM

Thanks, Glad to be at help for the fellow enthusiast.

911231 10-21-2009 05:19 AM

I will take one. pm sent, Thanks Al

Are you still making these O2 connectors?

Hi there- I know that its been a long time but are these still available and have you heard about how well they worked? I would be interested in a couple. Did Pelican ever pick them up?

Thanx
Much

ManniB 09-14-2012 09:15 PM

I purchased one recently from Louie. Louie was very kind and delivery was prompt (took some time to get it over to Germany). It works perfectly. If function is what you're after this is the way to go. However, it is not concourse correct.

yes still have some and this connector works well.
"Did Pelican ever pick them up?" No not enough demand.
send me a pm.

O2 sensor part

Hi Louie; Thank you for answering. I would like to buy one of these in case mine fails. I managed to JB weld it back together but it feels temporary. What is the email or address where I can send a paypal to you if you take that. Question; is the electrical connection the only issue here or is O2 somehow drawn in also? Why all the fancy shielding around these things---its a mystery to me! Again thanks. Also I think I know why so many of these things are broken. I pulled mine off thinking it was like a sparkplug from underneath. This probably pulled the plug down and cracked it.

BE911SC 02-19-2013 04:51 PM

As advertised! Works like a charm. Thanks again Louie.

I'm thinking of getting another and keeping it in my parts bin.

Louie: You've got a PM from me!

RDM911 02-20-2013 04:46 AM

I had the chugging problem crop up on my 85 3.2 Carrera. I did the usual plug wires, plugs and cleaned all electrical connections. All was fine for a few days and the problem returned. Pulled over and stared at the motor running on what seemed to be four cyliders and decided to pull on the O2 connector. Car cleared up. Pushed on the connector and the chugging was back. Needless to say I am interested in purchasing your connector. I will PM you.
