Chicago Nortown Auto Question for 911 repairs

Curious if anyone has used them? They seem to be under the impression that several reputable Porsche mechanics tend to over charge. They work on many imports Ferrari's and Bentleys to name a few.

Anyone from the Midwest or Chicago area used them before?

How does one reply to this question? Who seems to be under the impression that several reputable Porsche mechanics overcharge? This is a loaded question.

I used them once for an alignment on my BMW M3 many years ago. they did a great job and provided the printout of the settings without me asking. many of the independant mechanics in the city use them for various jobs because they have some of the more expensive equipment. all of the independants know each other well and share info and even work. most independant mechanics started out working for some dealer and they specialize in a particular automaker. if my mechanic gets and alfa, he works on it. if a bmw rolls in he might ask the mechanic down the street to look at it because they worked at a bmw dealer in the past. most customers do not realize this. a good mechanic in chicago (and elswhere) uses these resorces. i'm sure Nortown gives good service to a mechanic who brings them regular work. the best policy is to let them do some basic work and talk to them - build a friendship because they really do want to do good work. many mechanics prefer to do work for a few customers they know over working for different customers. nortown also has a few cool cars sitting around the shop which is a good indication they care about what they do.

There are two Nortown shops on North Avenue, across the street from each other. I've never used them but my neighbor had a nightmare experience with one of them.

I've personally used and would recommend

Eurosport Midwest in Bensenville www.midwesteurosport.com/

Chicago Performance and Tuning in Melrose Park http://www.gocpt.com Ask for Al or Paul.

VFC Engineering in Lincoln Square http://www.vfc-engineering.com/ Ask for Doug or Robin.

CPT and VFC are big supports of the local Audi club and great people. Doug at VFC is very knowledgeable about older Porsches. Tell them that I sent you.

I don't know Nortown. I use Midwest Performance Cars in the West Loop and love them.

I'll second both CPT and VFC.

Doug at VFC did the 915 gearbox rebuild and regear for me and it's perfect. Maintains a lot of 911', 996's, 951's.

Al at CPT personally drives a 996 GT3 Cup, and works on a lot of GT3's, and has state of the art alignment equipment as well as a 4 wheel Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno.

Both are nice guys and are fairly priced too.
