Put cat back on and ahhhhh, i like it.

Maybe I'm getting old or something but today I replaced my cat bypass with the old cat and ahhh, I like the quieter sound (plus less stinky clothes). I have a modified stock exhaust with a dual outlet on the passenger side. Sounds mellower and not as drony or raspy (with the bypass) but still is quite a bit louder than totally stock. The main reason I put the cat back on is to reduce the smoke from my bad valve guides. I put in a SW chip last week and that really stepped up the smoke at idle. Now it's not nearly as bad and the reduced power isn't all that noticeable. The SW chip makes great smooth power and I didn't realize how loud my car was with the bypass. I'll get the topend redone next spring and probably put the bypass back on then. But for now, sometimes there's more to a nice drive than pure power.

I put on an M&K pre muffler to go with my stock muffler. With a little extra sound insulation inside it's nice and quiet in the cabin. Perhaps I'm getting old as well - I don't want the extra noise (I've already got a bit of hearing loss, I don't need to help it along).

I removed my cat, ssi's and the 2 in one out m&k on my 3.0l. I LOVED it for the first summer! Now I am looking for a way to quiet it down again.......

Yep...went back to cat last year also after many years without it....no smoke with the bypass but the smell was too much for me. Strange thing is, the smell was never offensive till ethanol came on the scene. I also enjoy the quieter exhaust note...grey in my beard reminds me I am getting old too.

I hear ya, I have two mufflers one a stock 2 in 1 out, the other is a 2 in 2 out model (loud). I switch them back and forth depending on my mood.

Now that I've swapped it out a couple times.... I can see myself putting the bypass back on for track days and save the cat for daily duty. It's pretty simple to do... 9 bolts and an O2 sensor. Took a little over an hour today for the whole thing.
