If I upgrade my SC's suspension will it...
If I upgrade the suspension will it become less raw and tossable? I have the parts already; Carrera sways, thicker torsion bars and that bar across the shock towers. Will I become disappointed or pleased? I want my SC to be flatter on the corners but I don't want to give up the tossable quality. What's been your experience?

It will be MORE of all the things you like. More tossable, more responsive. more visceral.

The answer is a resounding YES! I upgraded the suspension in my Cab about 4 1/2 years ago and found that it is eminently more "raw" and "tossable". The suspension will be stiffer, which will mean it will take a set more quickly during the turn-in to a corner, and therefore will react more quickly than you are used to now. It will feel less ponderous during transitions and therefore will feel as if it is lighter.
Over the years I have driven quite a few stock 911's and can say that I notice quite a difference between those cars and mine. |

Dumb question, do you have the shocks/strut inserts to match the rest of the parts?
I had my shocks & struts replaced and that made a huge difference... My mechanic recommended I hold off on the T-bars and swaybars until I had tried the new shocks first, and so far I'm happy with the decision. Car could be a bit more stiff, but the handling, especially on less-ideal roads, is much improved. So, the shocks will play into your "tossability" results.

Its well documented that the Porsche Upgrade is a unstable system. Even considering an upgrade is enough of a disturbance that your wallet will be empty before you know it.
I'm desperately resisting the urge to upgrade. With the rainy season here and Winter after that I can't bring myself to spend the money only to garage the car until spring... Not that I'll earn much interest, but hey, its something.

Not sure what you mean by "thicker torsion bars", but if you've got the later Carrera bars, the front is the same between the SC and all 84-89 Carreras. The 84-86 Carrera got a 25mm rear tb vs the SC 24.1mm. So if that's what you have, then you'll have a car that feels like a Carrera.
Frankly, I occasionally drive my 911 on the street occasionally with 23/33 TBs, big sways, Elephant bushings and monoballs, custom valved Bilsteins and R-comp tires. Sure it's "firm" but it's still a blast to drive. Though I wouldn't want to take a family trip this way.

I just wanted to do the turbo tie rods and it turned into this. Poly bronze and biltein hd's, and all the other goodies, its like a whole nuther car.

Well I started with sport shocks all around with the help of Vash. I've had those for about three years now. At about the same time, a couple of Bay Area Pelicans installed turbo tie rods for me. I've been collecting the other bits since then. I don't remember now how thick the tbars are but at the time I thought they'd be a good upgrade. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me guys. Can't wait to get these installed!

fwiw, Ruf, with the Yellowbird, simply put in bigger sway's, for better/flatter handling/feel. They left the OE T-bars as they, apparently, still wanted to have compliance to handle real-world pavement irregularities.

Have a measured plan aka all components match up with the type of driving you do most.Also go to a track event and if possible drive or ride in cars stock and setup to your style.Cheers Chuck
