Does anyone out there have a chart showing the different years and sizes of engine cooling fans and housings; '65 thru '89.
For instance will a 5-blade fan from 1976-'77 retro fit back to 1965. I know that an 11 blade will fit the 76 & 77 to replace the 5 blade, but will a 5 blade fit back to '65? What I'd like to know specifically is the SC fan & housing smaller in diameter than say pre '78 when the 3.0 arrived? Appreciate the info. Henry S. ....you out there? regards, Relayswitcher |

Yes, the 78 and 79 used a smaller fan and housing
The 65/66 used a larger fan then the later so there is a bastard size fan out there. I think its 5mm larger but without side by side comparison you wont see it In 77 the 5 blade fan used a different ratio of crank pulley to fan pulley. Making it spin faster This is changed by noting the 77 fan has small holes where the early fan and pulley half had large holes to use a tool to remove the nut. This was the start of the 725x9.5 fan belt used through 79. The housing has a 901 part number The factory used heat to meet emissions, thus the 5 blade fan 78 the fan was smaller also raising the temp of the engine for emissions but with 11 blades. The housing is 930 part number with deep reinforcement on the outside to keep the outer diameter the same 1980 the fan went back to the regular size and the housing carries a 930 part number. The Carrera fan was the next change with holes in the pulley area for alternator cooling. The fan size remains the same. This will help I hope.. Bruce |
